22 acre hobby farm , animals, fruit, vegie, flowers
British Columbia
Hello Wwoofers,
my name is Carmel. I have recently settled down on my dream farm which is an old estate farm that had belonged to one family for over 100yrs.
The old farm has several buildings and old infrastructure. It has been neglected for a very long time, and we have alot of work to clean up with landscaping and prep for growing food/trees/flowers and building new infrastructure such as deer fencing and pasture fences for animals
The property came with multiple heirloom fruit trees which we are excited to see produce this summer and taste the surprises. Currently my friend and my sister are living on the property as well as a farmhand.
We have goats , chickens , ducks, cats, turkeys, an highland cow named Tinkerbell, a llama named Jack , an emu named Frederic, 2 juvenile ostriches and our sweet pup Missy.
Hopefully by next year we will be ready to plant an acre of hascap berries and other things.
Our day begins with morning chores of releasing all the critters and feeding. And little pup Missy comes along with us and learns.
After that the day proceeds with whatever project is taking priority that , let it be cleaning out animal houses, cutting and pulling of broom, prepping garden beds, weeding, removing old fencing, building new fencing, picking fruit , landscaping, painting something, restoration projects, food prep, etc. etc
Our farm plan is a work in progress as we are constantly going to be changing and doing new things in the coming years.
We like to take the goats and Missy out for casual walks on the property where we head out to the creek that runs through the middle of our farm. Frederic likes to follow along . The goats like to forage for leafy greens. Sometimes we take Missy out with the mountain bikes on the property through the trails, she gets her exercise and is learning how to be a trail dog so she can come running on public trails with us while we ride.
The day ends with feeding animals and putting the critters in for the night. And relax.
Accomodations are in a 3 bedroom dwelling we call the 70âs Place.
It is a self contained mobile home updated 70s vibe , with a kitchen, dining rm, living rm, laundry. One shared bathroom and one private en-suite. Each bedroom has a queen size bed, keyed door. There is WiFi on site, but currently not inside the mobile.
I can accommodate 3 individuals , also couples who want to share a room.
Sorry, we do not allow pets.
Kitchen is stocked with food for Wwoofers to prepare their own breakfast, lunch and dinner. We frequently like to host dinnertime meals in our , and itâs always a pleasure when the Wwoofers host us to a favourite meal specific to their home.
I enjoy many recreational activities. I like boating in the summer and try to get on the water often. I also like to get out on day hikes and mountain biking. There is world class mountain biking trails just 25 min drive to Cumberland. Also world class hiking trails and beautiful swimming places in the Comox valley. Mount Washington Alpine resort in Strathcona Park is only a 1/2hr drive from the farm.
With this new endeavor , I am excited to learn and grow as I develop the land into my dream farm.
I look forward to meeting new and seasoned Wwoofers and I also look forward to learning from Wwoofers with knowledge and experiences in different facets of farming and life in general.

I couldnât have asked for a better farm for my first WWOOF experience. You instantly feel comfortable, surrounded by all the animals and with Carmel and Brett, who do their best to make you feel welcome and at home.
The work is super varied, so youâre not doing the same thing every day, and itâs really fun to see how the farm is being rebuilt and transformed bit by bit.
If you like having a set schedule, this is the perfect place for you, as you have the rest of the day to enjoy however you want, after doing your hours. The animals are adorable, always up for some cuddles, and the ocean is basically right at the doorstep as well as some other great nature.
Itâs such a nice mix between having your own space in the â70s Placeâ and still being social, especially during shared dinners (Carmelâs cooking is amazing). Your own kitchen is also always well-stocked, so you got everything you need.
I had a blast and hope to come back someday. Thank you for having me guys :)
