Hello Wwoofers, my name is Carmel. I have recently settled down on my dream farm which is an old estate farm that had belonged to one family for over 100yrs. The old farm has several buildings and old infrastructure. It has been neglected for a very long time, and we have alot of work to clean up with landscaping and prep for growing food/trees/flowers and building new infrastructure such as deer fencing and pasture fences for animals The property came with multiple heirloom fruit trees which we are excited about. Currently my friend and my sister are living on the property as well as a farmhand who takes care of the animals when I am away. We have goats , chickens , ducks, cats, turkeys, a highland cow named Tinkerbell , an emu named Frederic, 2 young ostriches Lola and Lionel, and our sweet dog Missy. The animals are basically my pets and an attraction, not specifically for farming purposes except personal use for eggs and sometimes goat milk. Hopefully by next year we will be ready to plant an acre of hascap berries and other fruit. With the new landscaping design I hope to also start some flower farming. The work on my property varies from week to week and seasons. It includes cleaning out animal houses, picking up poop, cutting and pulling of broom, prepping land, burning piles, weeding, landscaping, removing old fencing, building new fencing, picking fruit , landscaping, painting something, restoration projects, food prep, etc. etc There is something for everyone if you are not afraid to get your hands dirty, a work independently or alongside other Wwoofers . I also welcome skilled Wwoofers to help me with more involved projects. When sending requests, please let me know if you have any special skills. Our farm plan is a work in progress as we are constantly going to be changing and doing new things in the coming years. We like to occasionally take the goats out for casual walks on the property where we head out to the creek that runs through the middle of our farm. Missy our dog and Frederic likes to follow along. The goats like to forage for leafy greens. Accomodations are in a 3 bedroom dwelling we call the 70’s Place. It is a self contained mobile home updated 70s vibe , with a kitchen, dining rm, living rm, laundry. One shared bathroom and one private en-suite. Each bedroom has a queen size bed, keyed door. There is WiFi on site, but can be spotty inside the mobile home. I can accommodate 3 individuals , also couples who want to share a room. Sorry, we do not allow pets. Kitchen is stocked with food for Wwoofers to prepare their own breakfast, lunch and dinner. We frequently like to host dinnertime meals in our home, and it’s always a pleasure when the Wwoofers host us to a favourite meal specific to their home. There are some bicycles available for wwoofers to use to explore the area if you do not have a vehicle. The closest provision store for fuel, snacks and alcoholic beverages is about 2 km away. The property is about one km walk or bike to Kitty Coleman Provincial park and beach. About 5.5 km walk or bike to Conawaga Beach. About 5.5km walk or bike to Seal Bay Nature Park. About me, I enjoy many recreational activities. I like boating in the summer and try to get on the water often. I also like to get out on day hikes and mountain biking. There is world class mountain biking trails just 25 min drive to Cumberland. Also world class hiking trails and beautiful swimming places in the Comox valley. Mount Washington Alpine resort in Strathcona Park is only a 1/2hr drive from the farm. With this new endeavor , I am excited to learn and grow as I develop the land into my dream farm. I look forward to meeting new and seasoned Wwoofers and I also look forward to learning from Wwoofers with knowledge and experiences in different facets of farming and life in general.

I spend some lovely days in Vancouver Islands astonishing nature. Carmel and Bret's farm project was a perfect place to get immersed into it. The island's eastern waterfront is not far and with their various, partially rather almost exotic seeming animals who joined us for a walk about the property one day I had a lovely stay. I shared a cosy unit equipped with everything I could have asked for, with another whoofer where we lived independently. But Carmel and Bret hosted nice and rich dinners every now and then. There where varying out- and indoor jobs for different skills and levels to do. I even was assigned some smaller projects to complete to my own responsibility. They have a well equipped gym as well which I used several times and worked out with Bratt once. I would totally recommend to get to know Vancouver Island via their farm and help them to establish their dream for which I wish them the best of luck. I hope to return one day and see how everything worked out.

Beautiful stay on Honeyberry Farm. It was my first WWOOFing experience, but not my last! Carmel and Bret are welcoming and generous. The farm's strong point is creativity. It's an original farm undergoing change. The accommodation is perfect for enjoying quiet moments, and the evenings spent together are friendly. Thank you for these four nice weeks on Vancouver Island!

I loved my stay with Carmel and Brett. They are relaxed and easy-going people full of ideas and I feel lucky to have been involved in their project. For 5 days a week, 5 hours of work per day is expected and the remaining of the day is free. The work is fair and the animals are nice to be around as they are very friendly. The 70s’ place is very comfortable and private and everything you could need is provided. I had lots of fun during my stay; whether it be with the other wwoofers or while spending time with Carmel and Brett when we got to dine with them. I would consequently recommend this farm to anyone looking to help with a growing project, animals lovers and social people!

I couldn’t have asked for a better farm for my first WWOOF experience. You instantly feel comfortable, surrounded by all the animals and with Carmel and Brett, who do their best to make you feel welcome and at home. The work is super varied, so you’re not doing the same thing every day, and it’s really fun to see how the farm is being rebuilt and transformed bit by bit. If you like having a set schedule, this is the perfect place for you, as you have the rest of the day to enjoy however you want, after doing your hours. The animals are adorable, always up for some cuddles, and the ocean is basically right at the doorstep as well as some other great nature. It’s such a nice mix between having your own space in the ā€œ70s Placeā€ and still being social, especially during shared dinners (Carmel’s cooking is amazing). Your own kitchen is also always well-stocked, so you got everything you need. I had a blast and hope to come back someday. Thank you for having me guys :)
