Large vegetable garden, Berry Orchard and layer hens as well as 3 horses and alpacas
British Columbia
Hi, my name is Laura and my husband Len and I live on a 10 acre farm in the beautiful North Thompson. we are both hard working seniors. We have a large vegetable garden as well as a Haskap Berry Orchard, we have 90 layer hens, 3 horses and 3 Alpacas. We have a Border Collie named Babe and 2 very spoiled cats, Fred and Phaedra.
I am a Bee keeper having 5 hives at the moment. I will probably grow to 8 by the late spring. Bee Keeping is a relatively new hobby but I love to share and Learn.
Each day starts with feeding the Hens and gathering eggs, then we are off to the garden before it gets too Hot! Planting in the spring, weeding all summer and harvesting in the fall .Our berry picking season starts in early June to the end of July.
I have 63 bushes of berries and they are all hand picked , we pick only the ripe ones.
I am an avid canner and Pickler and I make a lot of delicious Jam. I teach a community cooking / canning courses and enjoy sharing my knowledge with others.
Last year we completed a beautiful Studio Cabin. with a full kitchen , eco friendly incinerator toilet and a gorgeous Deck overlooking the North Thompson Valley.
We typically don't eat breakfast but I would supply food of your choice in your kitchen for breakfast. Lunch typically includes a soup and sandwich and dinner is typically at about 730 pm. We don't have any dietary restictions but I can accomadate almost everyone
I am a pretty good cook, I like to experiment with different cuisines, we love to travel, having spent 6 weeks last winter in Spain and Portugal. For the past 25 years I have been a spinner of Fiber, in the past I have owned sheep, angora goats, Llamas and Alpacas.
Len built me a she shed a few years ago where I can escape and just spin. I have a Loom that I am hoping to have time to learn to weave. Having had fiber animals in the past I have a supply of fiber to teach with.
We live in the Beautiful North Thompson Valley which includes Wells gray Park that has 27 waterfalls, great hiking trails and good fishing lakes. Actually we are surrounded buy some of the best fishing lakes in BC. Sun Peaks Ski resort and mountain biking is a short 40 minute drive.

We had an amazing time with Laura and Len! They are both very generous and kind-hearted. We got to learn a lot with them – about harvesting and winterizing the garden, taking care of hens, bee keeping, wool spinning, and also about the many things you can do with the products from a smaller and human-scaled farm. Helping them at the weekly market was also a very fun experience.
The accommodation they built for their helpers is wonderful and cozy, they definitely want you to feel at home.
Their energy and all their hardwork are very inspiring! Don't hesitate to go give them a hand and learn from them.
Thank you so much for everything, Laura and Len!
