Hi my name is Lindsey, I'm 48 and have been growing an organic garden for almost 20 years. We live on a 2 acre homestead in a former century old country schoolhouse with a large organic garden that provides the majority of our produce needs. Our property is geothermal heated & cooled, as well as uses solar power for at least half of our needs. The farm is home to a 1800 sq ft greenhouse, 3 alpacas, a dozen or more chickens, several ducks, 2 farm dogs and 4 cats, all of which have a role to play in our ecosystem. I live with my husband Paul, also 48, and our two sons James 19 and Ben 17. Our typical day in the summer, starts with coffee/tea and breakfast. Then we head outside to feed the animals and let them out into the pasture. Next gardening chores which include watering our large greenhouse, weeding, tending to plants and harvesting as needed. When the weather gets really hot we usually move inside for lunch, and then to clean or preserve the harvest as needed. We grow a large variety of perennial fruits and berries, and a large variety of annual veggies. In the afternoon when it cools down we might head back to the garden turn the compost pile, chop wood, or manage the plants and property further. At sun set we will feed the animals again, collect eggs, and put them to bed in the barn for the night. We also run a BNB on the property and our guests love to engage in farm and greenhouse tours and animal feedings to learn about our homestead, which you could participate in as well. We usually have a large family dinner, breakfast and lunch are self serve but we have a variety of options. Seasonal produce is always a favourite. We have a 10'x 11' guest bedroom for WWOOFer's. The bedroom is private and there is a 2 piece bathroom right outside. The shower is in a shared bathroom down the hall. We love hiking the beautiful wooded trails in our area, Uxbridge is the trail capital of Canada. Toronto is easily accessible via train for exploring on off days. I also do dog sitting so we often have some extra dogs in the house with us. My husband is a musician and plays guitar. We enjoy outdoor fires in the summer, and watching the stars is pretty spectacular. Luckily my husband is an excellent cook so we always eat well. We'd love to have you come explore our farm and learn more about organic gardening and caring for animals. Learn more about us @webb.schoolhouse

The Webb Schoolhouse; what a great place - full of peace and quiet, super serene escape from the city. Lindsey and Paul were super hospitable, sociable, and laid back. Also, the best accommodation I've ever stayed in as a WWOOF-er hands down. If you're lucky enough to meet Pepper, the golden retriever, she's kind of like a spirit animal who wanders freely from place to place and is always asking for pets. In general, the animals are so cute! I learned about small-scale farming, helped set up irrigation pipes, drove a tractor for the first time, composted, and general labour where it was needed. It's also a 10 minute drive to the GO Station, if you ever want to take the train! All in all, the Webb Schoolhouse was an unforgettable experience and I would 1000% recommend it to anyone curious about trying WWOOF. Thanks again, Lindsey & Paul. Cheers, Joseph

After traveling through Canada for seven weeks last summer, staying at Lindsey and Paul’s farm was the perfect place to settle in and wrap up my trip. Lindsey and Paul’s house is very cozy and lovingly decorated; I felt right at home in my room from the very first minute. During my two weeks on the farm, my daily tasks mainly consisted of watering the garden beds and plants around the house and picking all kinds of berries. Lindsey and I planted potatoes, set out tomato plants, cleaned berries, and made jam together. I was able to pick up some tips and tricks from Lindsey; her knowledge and enthusiasm are immense. In the mornings and evenings, I got to help Paul feed the animals and take them out of or back into the barn. It was especially entertaining to watch the ritual of the geese and chickens. Helping to trim their wings was a special experience for me. I often spent the afternoons reading in the sun, petting cats and dogs, or going on hiking trips. Lindsey and Paul are very generous and easygoing, so it was easy to get to day trips in the area. I really enjoyed the dinners cooked by Paul, the lovely conversations in the evenings over wine and the sunset. The peace and quiet all around and the beautiful light were wonderful too. Overall, I was welcomed very warmly into the family and circle of friends. The two weeks on the farm were a wonderful experience that I definitely wouldn't want to have missed. Thank you Lindsey&Paul

I want to mention an issue with communication and scheduling. My original agreement was to stay until Monday the 13th, but the plan changed multiple times. Initially, I was told there would be no work over the weekend and that I could leave early, so I agreed to leave on Saturday. Later, this changed, and I was told there might be work available. Then again, this morning -Friday- , I was first told I could stay Saturday to help with neighbours work, but a few hours later was asked to leave the same day. But the fact the host wanted to drop me off directly after I just finished a task was overwhelming and disrespectful, and I chose not to have much contact nor conversation with the host as I was departing. Based on WWOOF, hosts have the right to ask you to leave, which I fully respect bu the host continuous changes for the dates of departure was still overwhelming especially that I needed to change my plans and train bookings as well multiple times to follow her. While I live in Toronto and was able to adjust, the constant changes were confusing and stressful. If the expectations had been clear from the beginning, it would have been much easier to plan. I would especially advise caution for international volunteers, as last-minute changes like this could be much more difficult to manage if you don’t live nearby. I still had a fine stay, I learned a lot, the food was great, and there were meaningful connections during dinner. The work hours were also reasonable.

Thank you for your feedback, Mariam. Yes you are right I can see how the changes to the travel dates could feel overwhelming for you. Sorry for the last minute notice, I understand how difficult it must have been for you. We’ve had other Wwoofers from Toronto that were flexible about their arrival and departure times so I assumed that since you are local, it would be a reasonable request to ask you to leave early. We do appreciate all your help with chores on our farm. However, you were not a good fit for our farm as you repeatedly said things that felt insensitive to our family, we thought it best for you to leave early.

I had an absolutely WONDERFUL time at Webb School House. Lindsey and Paul are the most the sweetest and most hardworking people. They taught me so many things about gardening, harvesting and caring for farm animals. They create such a welcoming environment and are very passionate about what they do. The animals are so cute and there is so much to do around the farm. As a first time Wwoofer I had an incredible journey and would definitely recommend this place, I would love to go back and help out. Thank you so much !!!!!!

This was my first WWOOF experience, and I’m really glad it was with Lindsey and Paul. They made me feel welcomed and their home is beautiful.. clean, cozy, and set in a peaceful, scenic spot in the countryside. I got to do a bunch of things I’d never done before, like picking strawberries and asparagus, herding ducks, helping baby chickens settle in for the night, and even driving a tractor. Lindsey is full of knowledge about farming and gardening, and it was great learning from someone who’s so passionate about what she does. One of my favorite parts was just being outside with the animals, watching them roam around. It felt really calming, like something out of a Disney movie. Evenings were a treat too. Paul’s a fantastic cook, and we often used ingredients we’d picked earlier that day. One night he made a delicious pesto from garlic scapes I’d harvested that morning, which was pretty cool. If you’re thinking about WWOOFing and want a change of pace in a beautiful place, I’d definitely recommend staying with Lindsey and Paul.

If I could describe my stay at the Webb Schoolhouse in three words… I honestly wouldn’t have any. Staying at Paul and Lindsey’s was an experience I’ll never forget. I’ve learnt so much about how to grow gardens from seeding, planting, watering and weeding. On top of that, I was able to feed ducks, chickens, (with their babies, so cute!) and alpacas. I got to use a tractor, a post hole shovel, a rake, and many other tools. In the quiet times, I was able to read my books while listening to the animals and the trees, watching the sun set, and waiting for the fireflies and stars to come out at night. Paul and Lindsey have taught me so much in just a span of one week, and I highly recommend their farm not just because of the many new things you’ll get to try, but because they are passionate about what they do. If I could, I’d do it all over again 🥹
