Hello WWOOFERs! We are Florian and Minette, who run a regenerative farm in Horsefly, British Columbia, called Elska Acres, along with our three kids. We strive to grow nutrient dense food while implementing practices to protect the land for a sustainable future. Florian was raised next door on his parent’s ranch, Sunshine Ranch, where he grew up raising cattle and working in the family butcher shop. Today, we get to work together as a family and take pride in producing ethically raised meat, pastured pork and grass fed/finished beef. We get to be part of our product from start to finish with not only raising the animals, but harvesting it ourselves through our family butcher shop. This reduces stress for the animals by avoiding transport to a slaughter facility giving them the best life possible. Florian was born in Switzerland and moved to Canada as a child. He is fluent in English, Swiss German/German. His parents and two sisters families also live near us so they speak Swiss German often, but we can also help anyone with their English. We are always busy with something taking care of a large property, whether it be moving/feeding animals, fixing fences, haying, gardening, cooking, and other households projects. Everyday is different. We work hard, but also love to explore and have fun. Enjoying children is a must as our three young kids are always involved in our daily routine and farm work. If we are not spending time on our farm, we love to swim at the local lake or river in the summer, hiking, camping, fishing, snowmobiling, ATVing, or anything adventurous outdoors. Our village is quite remote so we live in a place where we can do all this right from our home. We love having campfires for some social time and meals. There is also a great community here so some local events are great to attend as well! We take pride in cooking homemade meals and lean towards more of an organic lifestyle by consuming food we have grown or raised. If you like cooking that is a bonus. Simple tidying tasks to keep your space clean and shared clean up from meals is required to help us all go outside and enjoy the outdoors. Horsefly is a remote community in the center of British Columbia. It is a perfect place to explore for any outdoor enthusiast. Surrounded by rivers, lakes, waterfalls, and mountains. Hike the local mountains, swim/fish in the lakes and river. Wildlife viewing such as coyotes, wolves, bears, moose, elk, and deer. Our small town has a local cafe, small convenience store, a gas station, and a small library. We get most of our supplies from Williams Lake, which is about 50 minutes (70kms) from our home which also has the closest airport. You'll have your own bedroom in our downstairs with adjacent lounge room with TV. Shared bathroom is upstairs. Laundry machines are available in our home. We live a busy life that is always changing with the season, but take time to have fun as well! Come stay with us and learn about life in Canada and become part of our family!
