Farm Store, CSA, Market Garden, Orchard, Family Farm
New Brunswick
Greetings! Our family lives on a 76 acre farm on the Miramichi River (known for amazing fishing) in Northeastern New Brunswick, Canada. We recently engaged in the journey of converting an existing older conventional U-pick apple orchard (300+ trees - apples, pears, plums) into an organic/permaculture orchard and added organic intensive vegetable gardens and laying hens.
We love learning about and sharing our passion for regenerative farming, food security and nutrition with our customers and selling our produce from the farm and at local farmers markets. With digestive health challenges in our own family, we embrace whole, organic foods and connecting with the earth as medicine! By 2028 we aim to be back in active Agritourism on the farm with apple, berry and pumpkin U-Picks, event hosting, recreation and educational experiences. Our livestock at the moment is limited to free range laying chickens, but we hope to add sheep, geese and ducks in the near future.
VEGETABLES
This season we expect to be busy expanding the diversity of crops for our CSA members and experimenting with tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers in our unheated 30' x 90' greenhouse. Activities include but are not limited to: bed prepping; starting seedlings inside using growing racks/in the greenhouse; microgreens growing; adding seaweed/compost and other implements to soil; direct seeding and transplanting vegetable starts; weeding/cultivating; monitoring for pests; irrigating, covering, mulching, lots of harvesting; etc. We are focusing this year on our CSA membership with two pick-ups at the farm and selling to the public from our on site farm store mid-May to Mid-October on Saturdays.
FRUITS: APPLES, PEARS, PLUMS, GRAPES AND BERRIES
We are in the process of revitalizing the soil in the orchard by rotating our chickens with their wagon coops and solar fencing throughout the 5+ acres; pruning; using natural pest and disease management strategies while increasing the biodiversity. Considerable time and attention is needed to monitor soil, growth and weather to naturally help address pressure from disease and pests; over grafting more resilient varieties of apple, plum and pear trees; mulching to reduce ongoing maintenance and ensuring young trees are trained to mitigate future pruning needs.
HAY
We protect the habitat of several endangered bird species that love our wetland and hay fields and have a special place in our hearts for birds in general. We try to do cut in late July to give them a change to nest. It is harvested and stacked in the barn for our local horse and other customers throughout the Fall. We use it for mulch too. It is a hard and sweaty day's work, but so rewarding!
EGG LAYER CHICKENS
We keep a diverse flock of chickens that we raise from day old so we can be assured of how they have been pastured and treated. Our hens are almost like our pets - we get quite attached to them. It is a struggle to deal with fox pressure, so we always keep them protected with moveable solar powered electric fencing.
MAPLE SYRUP
We produce our own 100% pure, wood-fired maple syrup off site in March/April and sell it from the farm store and in local shops in Miramichi. We hope to experiment with value-added products in 2025, including maple candy and butter.
GUEST/WOOFER ACOMMODATIONS
We have two WIFI equipped camper trailers which each have one private bedroom (1 queen sized bed), bathroom, kitchen, living/dining area. The living room also has a pull-out couch to sleep an extra person. They have their own electricity, clean well water supply and sewage system. WWOOFers are provided with food/meals and necessary supplies. We have group meals typically once/week. There are cooking facilities and a fridge in the camper and in the farm store. A BBQ and campfire pit are available for outdoor cooking. We like to stay clean and organized when it comes to food preparation, cooking and cleanup too. Although we are not vegan/vegetarian, we mainly consume a whole foods, largely plant-based diet. There is plenty of striped bass and trout in the river for those who like to fish!
ACTIVITIES & AREA ATTRACTIONS
We enjoy all things homesteading, campfires/stargazing, music, hiking, bird watching, swimming, badminton and axe throwing on the property. We would love to start more perennial flower gardens and encourage our wild edibles and medicinal plants.
Nearby, along the river, there is horse back riding, lazy river tubing, a small fish and chips restaurant and Miramichi is 20 minutes by car to explore. It is rich in Indigenous, Acadian and Irish history, amongst others.
WHAT OUR DAY LOOKS LIKE
We prefer to start early and take advantage of the cool of the day and break in the high heat, but we are flexible. An ideal schedule would be Tuesday to Saturday with an average 4 hour daily engagement.
Much of New Brunswick is bilingual and two of us are fluent in French. We would love the opportunity to practice our French more! We look forward to sharing this amazing transformational journey with you and the joy that comes from stewarding resources, growing, and sharing health-giving food!

I had a very nice stay, with this lovely family. The trailer was clean and had a lot of space. I had great supper in the evenings and the fridge in the trailer was filled with more choices of food than I needed. There was no hard work and everything was shown or explained to me before I had to do. In my free time I had the possibility to have my private time or I would do any activities together with them.
Thank you very much for the experience! I will remember this stay and the whole week for a long time.

Jane and her family are such kind, generous and welcoming hosts! I learned so much from everyone and enjoyed so much about the farm, especially the tasty beans, berries, beets and maple syrup! I was very comfortable in the spacious, well-equipped, air-conditioned trailer and I would happily return.

To begin with, I must honestly say that this farm was one of the best stops on my trip. I would definitely recommend wwoofing there.
Both of us (Lotta and I) were treated like part of the family and thus were able to participate in free time activities. For example, we were taught axe-throwing and shown pickelball.
Very important to mention is the delicious food we were given. For breakfast we were provided with food to eat independently in the camper. For lunch and dinner we mostly ate together with the family. If you love food, then you are definitely in good hands with this family.
In terms of work: most of the time we worked on one bigger task from 8am to 12/1pm and got even lighter work in the afternoon. The work/free time distribution was very fair and the tasks varied. For example, we planted carrots and onions in the fields or shoveled compost on the rows. In the orchard we cut the sprouts and were able to build fly traps. What was very cool is that we learned to drive the tractor and lawnmowing tractor!
Thank you so much for the wonderful time with you and for the maple syrup. I would love to come back anytime :)

Liz and her friend Lotta were so fun to have around the farm! We appreciated learning about their German roots and they both exuded positive energy and eagerly engaged in all activities. We would love to have them back any time :)

I spent 10 days at Jane and Tim's farm and it was the best stay of my entire trip. The work was incredibly fun every day, there was always variety and it was never too tiring. It was adapted to the weather and we were often asked what we would rather do. There was work in the fields, in the orchard, but also other things like mowing the lawn on the ride-on mower (which is really great fun!) The balance between free time and work was also very pleasant and we did a lot of things together with the family. We went to play pickle ball, they taught us axe throwing, we had games nights, went into town and had ice cream and went swimming in the river. The food is incredible! Every single day there was incredibly tasty and healthy food, anyone who loves food is in really good hands there!
A day usually looked like this:
We met outside around 8/8:30, we prepared our own breakfast in the camper, but we had everything we could think of at our disposal. Then we usually worked in the field or orchard for a few hours, although we could always take a short break on our own. At lunchtime we usually had lunch together and we took a long break. We usually worked for a few hours in the afternoon, then we had free time. In the evening we ate together, sometimes friends came over and we made a campfire with marshmallows :)
We slept in a really well-equipped camper, the bed was very comfortable, everything was very clean, I felt very comfortable there.
Thanks so much for this wonderful time!

Lotta is a true country girl! :) She and her fried Liz were a joy to have on the farm. They fit in with the family and it was great to get to know their culture and reasons for WWOOFing. Lotta willingly engaged in all activities on the farm and was eager to learn. We would be pleased to Host her again any time!
