1. Describe your project, your place, and its inhabitants (including animals):
Moving to Vancouver Island in 2023, Steve and Trish are the owners of Cobble Hill Winery, a lavender farm and vineyard located in Cobble Hill, BC. We are one of 13 other wineries in the sub-appellation area known as the Cowichan Valley. The farm is 14 acres (5.6 hectares) of vines and lavender. The farm also has fruit trees (apples, figs, cherries and plumbs) and lots of gardens. We are open to visitors that come to do wine tasting and also enjoy the lavender from April to November.
2. List the activities that WWOOFers will participate in and what you want to teach them:
We enjoy having WWOOFers help with maintaining our vines (pruning, suckering, hedging, leaf pulling) in the spring and summer, harvesting the grapes (September and early October), maintaining and harvesting lavender (June through August) as well as working in our gardens (March - August) and picking fruit (August through September).
3. How will you feed and house WWOOFers? Please describe your accommodations and plan for meals:
We have a separate loft apartment that accommodates up to six people but often we book just up to four at a time. They loft has a full kitchen, bath, living area and individual sleeping cubbies. It is a shared space and volunteers cook and enjoy meals together. We provide a weekly stipend to each volunteer to buy groceries. We take volunteers weekly to a local market for shopping. Trish and Steve also host dinners weekly for volunteers in their home.
4. What could a WWOOFer's day look like at your site (time slot for participation in activities, expectations...)?
We request WWOOFers keep a consistent daily work schedule Monday through Thursdays. We mutually set the hours. Volunteers have weekends to travel and explore the local areas. We provide transportation to bus stops and local ferries. We also have bicycles that can be used for shorter excursions.
