We enjoy a busy pace in a relaxing, country setting here at Briden Farm, in Bear River, Nova Scotia, Canada. Briden Farm sits atop a Hillside, overlooking The Head of The Tide, where the freshwater river meets salt. The West Branch of the River helps form the Eastern property boundary and Franklin Brook runs through the back four acres of our 22 acres, before running into the West Branch. This land, it is believed, is that on which some of the earliest settlers first built and planted grapevines.
My Partner and I bought our 22 acres of paradise on the West Branch of Bear River, Nova Scotia in 2020, and have from necessity learned to recycle, Upcycle, and find creative ways of running our Homesteading Farm to make ends meet.
We are basically a traditional farm, embracing newer, more earth-friendly methods. Practising rotational pasturing and regenerative farming methods. Working to turn our woodlands into pastures and gardens and we do so by employing our Goats, Pigs, Chickens, Ducks, Rabbits, etc. in helping us accomplish our goals. We’ve also been asked to have our livestock on neighbouring properties, by property owners who saw what we’re doing and wanted us to do similar on Their Property. We currently have animals on four properties and walk from pasture to pasture covering a Km or two daily! Even in the Winter we sometimes have to make the trek to get the chores done. Lugging feed and water buckets, We do most everything by hand, in old fashioned ways! Ways that will allow you to learn what to do even if the grid goes down! We look forward to sharing our experience and helping you learn affordable, sustainable, skills that you’ll be able to use in a number of future opportunities. It’s hard work, cold temperatures in the winter, when we also have to cut, split, and process firewood for our wood stove. Yes, it’s hard work, cold temperatures, and demanding. Coming here you’ll learn a foundation for homesteading and farming that You’ll be able to build on in the future.

Current projects: We are very diverse and our projects reflect that. Everything from Daily Chores, Animal Care, Homemaker, Egg Collecting, Art Projects, Rotational Pastures, Regenerative Farming, Gardening, Firewood, And a myriad of other long, and short term projects, many of which are seasonal. Winters are cold, cutting and splitting fire wood, shoveling snow, and hauling heavy loads on the toboggan! It’s tough, but the food makes it worth it! Ethnically raised, woodland pastured pork, poultry, and nearly Wild rabbit! Just to name a few!
