We are very excited to start hosting wwoofer's in our community. This a great opportunity to be joining us in creating an off the grid lifestyle in its beginning stages. We live in a small harbour town , Fleur de Lys, on north east coast of Newfoundland called iceberg alley where Newfoundland English is spoken and traditions are shared and cherished. We live where moose are abundant with coyotes and bears visible at times. Nearly everyone who lives in the harbour is related to Neil. Julie is from originally from rural New Zealand. We live in a Newfoundland style house which is under construction in some areas. We have a trailer and off the grid cabin. We use our own boats, sawmill, argo and tractors. In the winter our main mode of transport is by snow mobile. We eat mainly from the land so eat local Newfoundland traditional meals utilizing locally grown vegetables with locally harvested fish, seafood, rabbit or moose. We are wanting to host people who want to be immersed in a local harbour community, work alongside us as we create our ideal lifestyle of returning to our roots by living within the natural environment. Our intention is to live off the grid and be self-sufficient. Our goals for next few years are to complete the off the grid cabin and house/fishing boat, make raised garden beds, plant fruit trees and much more. A typical day is gathering and harvesting food and materials from the local area, working on building projects (currently off the grid cabin and house/fishing boat), creating using wool or recycled materials, playing musical instruments, spending time with family and friends and taking part in community activities. Activities in the area lots of hiking trails with beautiful views. We are within walking distance of the waterfront. There are opportunities for hiking, boating, swimming, bird watching, animal sightings, whale watching, fishing, hunting, and wild berry harvesting. WWOOF'ers should bring proper attire which consists of work clothes, warm jacket(s), rain gear (pants/top), rain boots, work boots, warm gloves, and beanie/toque. We can provide work gloves, and other safety gear like glasses and earplugs. Internet access available

Generous, gracious and down to earth host. Considerate, approachable and friendly. If you are looking for a coastal Newfoundlander small town vibe, we highly recommend Julie and Neil and Fleur-de-Lys.
