Family home and garden - rural, Nature preserve
Nova Scotia
Little Hobby Farm in the beautiful South Shore of NS, we are about 6 km outside of Shelburne, across beautiful Shelburne Harbor. About 2.5 hrs. away from Halifax (Airport/Busses) and about 1.5 hrs. away from Bridgewater where Busses from Halifax go ( Maritime Bus, check online) and from where we can pick you up. We may also would pick up from Halifax Stanfield International Airport if we have to go to Halifax .
We have Gardens, two little Green Houses, Chickens, Ducks, we raise almost all of our own meat, Eggs, Vegetables, Berries, Bread (homemade Wood fire bake oven) , lots of homemade here like german Spaetzle, Pasta, Sausages etc. etc. Somebody interested could learn a lot here about Food in general, we are known here for good Food :), I am a retired Chef
and my wife still works casual.
Cooking, canning, butchering, fishing, gardening, everything Wood working big and small (full big Workshop), knowledge about many animals, ( Bread) baking, Beer and Wine making (mostly from just a kit), Wild mushroom knowledge.
We speak german and english.
We would like if a Wwoofer stay's at least 15 days with us (and longer:) One week is to short.
We prefer one at a time, but consider couples too, depending on time and work. The Guestroom has two separate beds.
Organic methods: I don't use Pesticides on the property, we only produce Meat, Vegetables and Berries for our self.
Certifications: We just produce for our self.

I was very pleased that this family accepted my visit. I was finally greeted by a clean and tidy house, and the two small dogs were very cute. I got breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, I did not have to worry about it. All I had to do was work.
The porcupine scratched the fruit trees very badly. It was quite an ugly sight. I worked a lot pruning the trees because they were many years behind. I really liked the guinea fowls in the yard.
Be good and laugh a lot!

Agnes, I have e-mailed you a week ago about your review.
Please read it.
Please take out your car attack story, because it has nothing to do with us as a review.
thank you

We feel lucky that we had the opportunity to spend 3 weeks with Annette and Lothar on their beautiful farm. They are very friendly and warm people, and we felt that we were treated like family members. We really enjoyed our conversations and spending time together.
We learned many new things during our time on the Mayer's farm. Our tasks included working in the garden, painting a barn, fixing a fence, cutting grass, chopping wood etc. We liked the work, and Lothar gave us good instructions for the tasks. There is always something to do at the farm, but we felt that the work was fair and never too much.
Lothar and Annette cooked for us every day, and we had the best food we have had during our time in Canada! On our free time we liked to go for walks and bike trips around the beautiful area nearby. We also got to meet Lothar's and Annette's friends, who were all very nice people.
Thank you Annette and Lothar for the great wwoofing experience!

I can not imagine a better place to wwoof than Annette's and Lothar's. I stayed at their home for four weeks and loved every hour of it. Never felt like a guest, but more like part of the family. With view of the sea and all the interesting stories Lothar got's to tell it is easy to enjoy the work. Lothar is a great story teller - and an even better cook. I will keep many memories of my time at Mayer's farm. And many of them are about the incredible taste of something. So be prepared for different kinds of work (everything will be explained - I am a total greenhorn when it comes to gardening but Lothar found the right jobs for me), writing some recipes down - and leaving with some extra-weight.

I had a great time at Lothar’s farm. Every day I learned something new.
Planting, cooking, baking or eating food I’ve never had before.
They showed me around as much as possible, I met wonderful people and where they live is such a beautiful place.
Lothar, Annette, the dogs and I had a great time together. It never gets boring there ;)
Thank you for the great time!
