Hobby farm
British Columbia
We are a small family farm focusing on living a more sustainable lifestyle. Currently two out of the three of us are full time on the farm, in the spring and summer we are working to help make our property more self sufficient by restoring old (herb and flower) garden spaces as well as creating a new vegetable garden, and taking care of the farm animals (ie: pigs, chickens, ducks, turkeys). Fall is harvesting season, prepping coops and pens for winter, and some tea and soup making. In the winter things slow down, so a lot of time is spent plowing snow, chipping wood, and organizing the house and barns for spring. We also have two dogs a large guardian and a medium size hound, as well as 5 cats on the property. There is one person at the property at all times taking care of the animals and our gardens, making sure everything runs smoothly.
Our home is located in the mountains of barriere, about a 20 minute drive from town, but only a 5minute drive to east barriere lake and 20 minutes to north and south barriere lake. We’re also located fairly close the Barriere forks regional park, where there’s tons of hiking trails in the warmer months and snowshoe/ ski trails in the winter. The property itself is situated on a beautiful 10acres of mostly treed area, that backs onto the East Barriere river. Seasons vary from each year. Most summers are hot but there’s lots of trees creating plenty of shady areas, making the property not too bad. As we’re up in the mountains our fall weather is usually quite crisp, definitely sweater weather, some times a Mack jacket. In the few years we’ve lived here we’ve experienced both wet and dry winters, meaning wet heavy snow vs light and fluffy snow. Either way we’ll have anywheres from 1-4ft of snow throughout the winter. Springs can also change each year it all depends on how much snow we get, we could have a very moist spring where rain boots are needed, it could be a pretty dry spring where you can wear sandals right away. Either way each season is always a new adventure!

I had a truly wonderful time on this gorgeous farm in the beautiful mountains. Pat, Tanya and Shannara are lovely pretty who made me feel at home quite quickly. There were lots of different things to do and I could often decide myself what I wanted to do. I had a great time tending to all the animals and watching the chickens grow up. I was supposed to stay a month but added a couple of weeks at the end and I definitely plan to come back here. Thank you for the amazing time!

We really enjoyed our stay at Cluckingham Acres! Pat, Tanja and Shannara are very welcoming and caring. We were in good hands. Shannara is an amazing cook - we always had enough food and snacks ;)
We participated in family activities and had a wonderful and memorable time on their farm. The work was not too hard, we learned a lot about farming in general and we had a lot of free time in the afternoons.
You should be able to stand the smell of smoke.
Thanks again for having us so spontaneously!

I recently spent an unforgettable week with Patrick and Tanya at Cluckingham Acres. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with open arms and treated like family. Patrick and Tanya were incredibly kind and patient, always offering tips and valuable lessons about farm life.
Cluckingham Acres is home to pigs, chickens, ducks, and two wonderful and strong dogs. I was particularly fascinated by the pigs, and my favorite thing to do was feed them. One of the most memorable experiences was learning how to process chickens from start to finish, thanks to Patrick and Tanya's expert guidance. They are not just great guides but also fantastic storytellers, sharing fascinating tales about their lives on the farm and their upbringing.
Their daughter was a delight. She is a great cook and very into plants. On one occasion, we picked berries together. She also showed me around Barriere, giving me a wonderful tour of the area. I had the privilege of joining them at a family gathering as well. Their warmth and hospitality made their home feel like my own.
Leaving Cluckingham Acres was incredibly sad, but I know that I can return anytime and be welcomed back with open arms. Patrick and Tanya have created a truly special place, and I am grateful for the time I spent there.
