We are a female couple who have been together for 20+ years … with tons of enthusiasm for learning and experimenting. We have hosted over 25 wwoofers since we joined with the wwoof program in 2021 and we absolutely love having folks join with us each summer. Our lives are truly richer together!! What a big few years we have had … we moved our ‘farmlette’ from an urban setting in Vancouver and set it up in a country setting on the Sunshine Coast (about 3 hours away). We now have a 1/2 acre farmlette with 4 chickens, a small (trio) rabbitry, 6 organic garden growing beds, a 2 year old Great Pyrenees named Shamar who is growing into a big strong protector for all of or animals… and of course our worm (composting) hotels! We have a few fruit trees (apple, apricot, cherry, fig, grapevine, red currants). We have a cozy sleeping shed for two wwoofers (that we call the poustinia) nestled in the center our farmlette. Your stay will be private, safe and as comfortable as we can make it - though it is still a bit rustic with an outdoor high quality composting toilet and shower. We ask people who Wwoof with us to work from 8:00 am - 2:00 pm 5 days a week. (We break for 1/2 hour lunch at noon). We like to honour Sundays as a regular day to rest and we allow flexibility with your other rest day, allowing you to decide what is best. (Occasionally if there are big projects we may ask you to work an extra hour or so on a specific day but we try to be very respectful of your rest and play time)! We can host 2 wwoofers at a time - the poustinia is a shared sleeping cabin. (If you are applying to come alone, you will likely be sharing the cabin.) Wwoofers who do very well with us are enthusiastic, eager to learn about construction projects and animal care, they are not afraid of getting dirty or working alongside us in doing a great day of satisfying work. If you are quick to jump in when you see a need, can happily take instruction, ask curious questions and are able to communicate your needs, know how to take care of yourself and do what restores you best on your ‘off time’, it all helps everyone build strength as a team and can form lasting bonds of care and friendship. (That does not mean it’s always “amazing”… we know hard things might happen, but these can be used to strengthen us if we live them honestly and look together for positive outcomes). So, this year 2025 we will be ready to welcome wwoofers as of May. This Spring / Summer we will be working on establishing new farm spaces…this includes setting up the outdoor kitchen, building a pottery shed, and a new outdoor bathroom while also getting the gardens planted and watered each day! Though we are not ‘off grid’, we are careful with our water, septic and electricity so we are looking at many ways to economize. Bring your knowledge and experience! We love people. We have been gold level hosts for a number of years on AirBnb and have found that woofers are a better fit now, as we expand our vision (and our workload). We are caring, curious and enthusiastic people who will be supportive of your learning goals. We are looking for folks with energy and willingness to join us in our vision. We will treat you well, feed you well and encourage your self-expansion. If you enjoy cooking we will gladly hand you a spatula ! If our little piece of heaven feels like a good fit for you, jump in to the joy of gardening and growing with us! Organic methods: We have been focussing on creating our own fertilizer (black gold) through the development of our red wriggler worm farm. This is our fourth year of full use and it’s going well. We use no pesticides. Certifications: Not certified Internet access is available Beautiful lakes and ocean within walking distances for you to enjoy on your time off!

I had an amazing stay there! I felt so welcome and at home in their presence, from the homemade meals (delicious homemade pizza by Juanita) to the fun trips to the lake with Laurie, and much more. Especially loved picking blackberries off bushes in the mornings!

My stay with Nita and Laurie was perfect, they made it very easy to feel home and being part of the Kingsland Farmlette. Most of the time we worked together and could finish a lot of small projects as building a fountain into the pond, making the patio summer ready or welcoming baby chickens into the world. 🥰 I really loved the Friday’s pizza night, watching english crime series with you or cooling down in waugh lake. I’m so grateful for the way you welcomed me into your home and giving me such a warm and memorable experience. Already looking forward to see you again!!

We spent 2 months at Kingsland Farmlette as a family (May and June). Laurie and Nita welcomed the 4 of us with such open heart. For us who are on the road this year, it felt like home! Laurie had the vision for the farmlette and we mostly helped her with construction / beautification projects when we were there (patio extension, helping assemble together a couple of little buildings (including THE nature spa), landscaping) Nita is working full time online but we would spend more time with her on Saturdays helping her out with the garden beds, as well as caring for the rabbits and chickens. Laurie and Nita always took the time to explain things and include our children. We talked about many subjects and had a great time. They helped us arrange to catsit one of the neighbours’ cabin who was away so we could have a bit more space for our family of four. We shared lunches and dinners at the lovely outdoor dining area. And got into a little tradition to finish the day with tea and gut gummies in the sunny spot. During our days off we hiked around in the area, swam in lakes and used the "free for all" canoe on Ambrose Lake. We met several of their friends/ family members who came for a stay at the farmlette and friends from the neighbourhood which was lovely! We enjoyed playing new to us board games. The children also did a very successful muffin and lemonade sale at the ferry terminal. Laurie and Nita have a vision and we wish them all the best to get there!!

I had a really wonderful time at KingsLand Farmlette with Laurie and Nita! They were extremely warm and welcoming, and introduced me to friends, family, and neighbors. They live in a beautiful setting, and a short walk away from the Earls Cove ferry terminal and water access. The work was more so construction projects but was interesting and varied, with lots of free time in the afternoons and evenings to relax or explore. The meals were really nice and eaten together, and they were very accommodating of my vegetarian diet. I look forward to returning and learning more from them someday soon!

It was so much more than just a WWOOFing experience. Being at Laurie's and Nita's felt like visiting your favorite aunt, who always has a warm smile waiting for you. The kindness, laughter, and generosity they shared created a place that wasn’t just about WWOOFing—they offered parts of themselves, with their humor, wisdom, and open hearts. Every moment with them, whether it was working on projects, laughing over a cup of hot chocolate or gathering around the fire after a day of work, made us feel cherished and connected. We also loved being involved in ALL the projects, from the planning stages to hands-on work, drawing on Laurie and Nita’s knowledge and experience. The connection we formed with you was deeper than we ever expected, and we are so grateful for the chance to be part of your lives, even if only for a short time.

Thomas and Justyna, thank you for your lovely words. It was, indeed, truly mutual and we are more for having had you both with us! We hereby officially name the upper gate and fence that you built us the TomTyna gate. Great laugh memory…is it a 🦆or a 🐻?

I had a really great time with Laurie and Nita. From the first day I felt very welcome and they appreciated the work that I did. The animals are as friendly as the hosts (VERY :)). I especially enjoyed the inspiring conversation we had at the dinner table. Thank you for everything!
