Family home and garden - rural, Hobby Farm, Market Garden, Flower Garden Farm, Horse Ranch, Orchard
Alberta
***We are currently accepting WWOOFERS in September untill mid October. Preferably one person looking for a longer stay.
Tasks include daily chores, horses, laying hens, pigs, wood chopping, cows, lambs, pasture management, goats and cow milking, and more.
We are proud advocates and caretakers of our 20 acres where we garden, and raise various livestock for personal self sustainability use.
Our property was conventionally farmed for decades. We are working to restore the land and welcome back nature. Every summer we add more garden space and plant more trees! we love to spend the evenings around the fire and cooking and sharing good food! (We are meat eaters, but love our friends with other food preferences and love learning new recipes! We are are family of five, three children aged 17-13-9. Its a busy house with animals and chaos everywhere! We try to grow as much as our own food as possible and have been learning new ways to preserve and store our bounty to last through the winter. Food is my love language. We milk our own cow and goats, so if your into dairy, baking and creating food you may enjoy your stay with us.
We are close to Edmonton AB and Elk Island National Park. There are a couple of small lake near by that are nice for paddle boarding as well.
Our goal is to produce healthy ethically grown food for our family. Any extras are happily shared with our neighbors .
Organic methods: No chemicals used in vegetation control or fertilization. All livestock is pasture raised and medication free. Practice mulching, composting and no till along side tilled gardens.
Current projects:
Hayloft conversion into a eco conscious studio
Continuously adding veg and flower growing space
Expansion of goat, pig and sheep pen
Restoration of overgrazed pastures by rotating pastured bird flock, and other livestock
Beatification and set up of a new milking space in a existing barn
Internet access available
Close to Edmonton and Sherwood Park
Please know that we also work conventional jobs from home, we cannot always work side by side depending on our schedule. Also again we have three busy kids! if you do not have grace and patience for children our home will be overwhelming for you:)
We love welcoming guests as family, and look forward to enjoying each others company:)

Michelle and her family are very lovely, it's as if you're part of the family. Despite my very limited English, they are very patient. Michelle takes the time to explain things clearly. You will live on a small family farm, take care of the animals, and tend to the garden. All production is personal for the family. Michelle works in addition to the farm, which is why I was often alone, but it's not very difficult. What can disrupt your work is the youngest daughter of the family who love to play in the afternoon, haha. I slept in the large caravan in the garden, next to the house. I was my personnal place, that was very cool.
Thank you again for this four months with you. Your kindness and your patient touched me deeply.

October 2024
Michelle was a really good host who made sure we had everything we needed although she had her hands full with the kids, work and chores. Honeysuckle acres is beautiful and we enjoyed the morning chores a lot.
We stayed in the RV, which was a little bit challenging in October, but we had heating and were always welcome to come in to the house and watch a movie, play games,…
None of the tasks were too overwhelming and we had a lot of time for sitting in the sun, playing with the kids or taking a walk. Probably there is more to do in spring though. Although Edmonton is quite close, you definitely do require a car if you want to go there a lot - we could go because Michelle organized a lift for us :)
To sum up, we had a nice start to woofing in Canada!

September 2024
Michelle kindly welcomed our group of 5 girls after we needed to quickly leave a previous farm under difficult circumstances. We wanted to stay together for the first time and Michelle gave us the opportunity for that:)
Though we only stayed for a week, it was exactly what we needed. Michelle provided us with food, showed us how to milk her cow, and everything we needed to know. Her generosity and care gave us a safe place to find new WWOOF placements. Because our stay was unplanned and we’re 5 girls, most of the chores were done in the morning: feed the animals, milking the cow, cleaning stalls, garage…
Most of the time Michelle was working and took care of her kids, so it was a relaxed stay with plenty of free time to sort things out. The animals, especially her dogs, goats, and cows, were lovely. I’m deeply thankful for Michelle’s kindness and hospitality.

The farm is very nice, Michelle is a lovely person, and the kids too.
Most of the time, Michelle is the only one to work on the farm, taking care of the kids and the house so it's a busy house :) It can be pretty challenging !
The animals are really great and very friendly !

Honeysuckle Acres was our first WWOOF stop on our journey and Michelle was a gracious host. Although we arrived in early spring and the season was just beginning, Michelle let us complete some fun DIY projects and love on all of the baby animals on the farm. It was easy going which made for a relaxing, enjoyable experience.
Thanks for hosting us Honeysuckle Acres!

I was treated like family right from the first day. It was really comfortable accommodation.
There was no pressure for work and it was all easy going.
You can work the animals as well as with the planting.
I recommend you bring a car or some vehicle if you want to leave the farm
