We are a pesticide free farm in that we do not use conventional pesticides on our produce and engage in organic practices. We operate year round with fresh greenhouse crops in the winter/spring and regular cropping during summer and fall. We have u picks at the farm for strawberries, raspberries and peaches and apples as well. We have livestock, a small beef herd as well as laying hens. We are situated on the beautiful Minas Basin and have ocean in our front yard. We host guests in our home and provide meals. Our work day is typically 4/5 hours, 5 days a week. We typically host people from two weeks to two months at a time and provide opportunities for exposure to local cultural experiences such as visiting historic sites, scenic points of interests, hiking trails, local wineries , and special eating establishments. Part of what we offer is life experience as well as a good knowledge of food production. Many who arrive at our door have little or no concept of the effort that goes into growing our food. There are many life lessons to learn from here including: self-discipline, commitment to and completion of tasks, willingness to pitch in when extra is needed, and the work involved in bringing seed to plate. My offering to the experience, is the knowledge based on several years of skill on working the land and learning from Mother Nature. My offering also includes taking the time to instruct our guests in how to take care of plants and animals in a productive and respectful manner. We attempt to take good care of the earth and growing things. We are non smokers. We have laundry facilities in our home. We try to eat well with the majority of our meals prepared from the food grown here on the farm. We are easily accessed by bus from Halifax and provide pick up at Wolfville.  There are many local activities and great places to eat. There are arts events at Acadia University during the school year, one of the best farmer's markets in Nova Scotia at Wolfville, and a cultural centre not far from us.  Nova Scotia has a rich history and there are historic sites near by. If you like the outdoors and hiking we have several challenging and breathtaking trails as well as a beautiful beach near by for salt water swimming.  We also boast several award winning local vineyards, two within one kilometre. There is a small village five minutes away with many shops. There is a major shopping area about 20 minutes by car. Organic methods: We utilize crop rotations, use organic pesticides and incorporate composted manures from our livestock.  We are a mixed farm growing vegetables/fruits inseason as well as greenhouse greens over the winter months. Certifications: We sell in a farmers market and have found that under the banner of pesticide free that our products are well received therefore have not sought certification. Current projects: We are currently involved in renovating our strawberry fields, weeding them and preparing for next years season.  We are soon harvesting and packing peaches, plums and apples and will soon begin seeding for our winter greenhouse crops for transplant in October/November.  We will also be harvesting our winter storage crops in September/October/November.  We are involved in weeding and watering these crops.  We will start attending a local farmer's market in the next few weeks. Deepest thanks to my wonderful hosts for such a welcoming and meaningful experience. Living the rhythm of this bio-diverse farm—tending to the animals and sharing in incredible farm-to-fork meals—was a joy I won't soon forget. There is something so grounding about the fresh air and the call of the ravens in such a beautiful setting. This is a space of true nourishment, both for the body and the mind. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a meaningful escape. With gratitude, Marjan

I met two very nice couples, Kevin and Jennifer. I love animals. I enjoyed feeding Jojo, who was left without his mother. I enjoyed pruning in the garden. I planted beautiful plants in the greenhouse. It was very nice how I flew me back to Bethlehem, the place where Jesus was born, last Friday. Thank you for that also! Laughter is important. Never forget it. <3

I really enjoyed my one-month stay. The daily farm work was tough, but I have so many good memories—like eating delicious meals and watching baseball on TV with Kevin and Jenifer. I would like to stay here again, if I have a chance. . . !

I had the pleasure of staying at the farm for 3 weeks and I wish I could do more. I am so grateful that they welcomed me with open arms and I am going to miss watching the blue jays with you guys 🥰 As for the work day, you typically work for 5 hours with 1 hour lunch at 12. On some days of the week other workers come and help out and it was great to work with them. If you have the opportunity to help them on the farmers market on Saturdays in Halifax do it! It was a great experience I am grateful for the things that I have learned and the people I have met and I would 100% do it again Thank you Kevin and Jennifer

Kiran and I had a lovely time at Oakview farm: whether we were picking raspberries, pruning the peach trees in the orchard, harvesting cucumbers in the greenhouse, or helping out at the farm stand in the Halifax market, we always felt so welcomed and learned so much. Kevin and Jen, the other volunteers and other WWOOFers on the farm created such a nice community and environment, and we are so greatful that we got to spend one month with you all. We will remember this summer for years to come, and thank you so much for creating such a peaceful, respectful, and calm community where we learned so much about organic farming. Always loved our dinners all together, and all of our conversations. Wishing you all the best for the rest of the summer, and stay in touch, Sophia and Kiran

I deeply enjoyed my time at Oakview Farm! Working with them was an enriching experience, and I felt right at home thanks to the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The team is super kind and patient, and I was amazed by the variety of fruits and vegetables they grow. I’ve learned so much during my stay and also realized how much more there is to discover. The shared meals and meaningful conversations under the willow tree, and the trips in the area are memories I’ll always love to look back to. Kevin, you’ve created something truly special. I hope many more people will have the chance to visit your beautiful farm and be inspired by your deep care for both nature and people. Next time I get the chance to be in Nova Scotia, I’ll definitely come back! Wishing everyone all the best! :)
