Midsize cattle ranch 640 acres owned and 3700 acres crown grazing lease. Primarily a cow-calf operation. Also a large non commercial garden and experimental northern orchard. Draft horses. quarter horses, and poultry. South Peace River area of northeastern BC, foothills of the northern Rockies. Closest town Dawson Creek 26 miles. If you are serious about this type of agriculture, sustainability issues around food production, survival as a small farm, and the like, we would welcome you for several weeks to make the trip north worth while. We are actively looking for a person or persons for 2022 to help with the late summer and fall season. (Calving starts in March.) July, August, September and October are the most critical times with garden, haying, and then cattle handling in the fall, so a couple of great people committed for some or all of those months would be ideal. We are no longer certified organic, but are registered under BC Environmental Farm Plan, and operate using regenerative agricultural practices. No smoking or drugs on the property. What we are not - pony club, resort, entertainment center. This is a working ranch, always something to do, and if you can bring an attitude of 'how can I help' you will be treated with respect, fed well, and able to enjoy the many things this area has to offer.  You will be helping out with calving, preping the garden, fixing fences, some tractor work, checking cattle on range, horse care and training, all depending on the weather. If you have some skills with horses, always horses about to work with/enjoy. Vaccination for covid required.  Facebook ravenwoodfarmbc Instagram ravenwoodfarm_bc Organic methods: Soil mineral balancing; composting; managed grazing; water management; drip irrigation; low stress livestock handling;  Certifications: BC Environmental Farm Plan Current projects:  Lots of fencing to do this spring and summer; garden to plant in May, maintain all summer, harvest late summer and early fall. Cattle to move pastures, check cattle on range; haying mid July to mid August weather depending; usually a couple of building projects on the go; sawmill to operate; always things to fix on a  farm. It would be important that you be able to handle hand and power tools; swing a hammer with effect. Chainsaw experience even better. Willingness to learn and a positive attitude essential. You will learn equipment operation and maintenance, animal husbandry, construction, maybe get to help train a few draft horses; all the starwberries and raspberries you can eat. Some recreational gardening to fill in the gaps. Side trips to local agricultural fairs, local rivers and lakes. Internet access available; wifi December 6, 2025 - I currently have an opening for January and February; and one for March and April. January February is mostly feeding livestock, various chores, firewood, staying warm. March and April is pretty full on with calving - applicant must be able to operate machinery, work with cows and newborn calves, crazy hours but very satisfying watching new life enjoy themselves.

I don't remember having been so happy and having worked so hard in all my life. And this is because of Ravenwood Farm. These four summer camp (!) months have been the most beautiful, wonderful, magic gift that life has given me. Bill, you are a hard-worker and you know so much about the soil, the animals, the plants, it's amazing. And you are always in the mood of sharing your knowledge. Thank you for showing me how to use a tractor, a quad, a chainsaw and different tools. And how to take care of calves, chickens, horses and bees. WWOOFer, if you are not afraid to work hard and you want to learn a lot of different things, I strongly encourage you to reach out for Bill. You will never be bored ! Bill is a man of his word, he kept all his promises that we discussed before I arrived at the farm. He is really easy to talk to. And he makes the best breakfasts ! Every day ! For me, coming back to Ravenwood Farm is not an option, it will happen one day !

My Wife and I stayed at Bill and Jane's place with our 14 month old daughter. It was a very pleasing experience and we were treated with a lot of respect. We felt like part of the family as Bill took over the role of grandpa for our little one. We highly recommend a stay there if you want to learn from a passionate and hard working farmer and you don't mind getting your hands dirty. Both are very helpful and supporting people. This stay was definitly the right decision for our parental leave. Thanks a lot Bill. Hope to see you again
