Horse Ranch - Breeding registered stock, training and sales
Alberta
We are a family run ranch, breeding, training and selling Quarter horses. We have been doing this for over 15 years. We are located above the beautiful Peace River. At any given time we have around 50 head of horses to care for. Mares, stallions and our many young horses. We apply natural horsemanship training methods. Spring time is a very busy time for us. We foal out around 15-20 mares every year. We are very hands on with our horses, espically our mares during this time of year. We monitor them night and day. I think its everyones favorite time of year, to see all the beautiful babies running around. After foaling season we start breeding. For breeding season, we do live cover, or A.I. Along with the horses we also put up hay. Usually over 700 acres of hay a year. Haying usually starts mid June for us, and goes till we're done. By the end of July we are normally finished haying. All the hay we produce is organic, no spraying. We are looking for someone to help us out durring foaling season, breeding season, monitoring mares and helping with the foals and chores. Other areas of help might include - working with other horses, riding, haying... and other genral duties that come with being on a horse ranch. Experience with horses is definitely a plus but not an asset if you are someone who wants to learn! Please contact us if you want to get to experience helping out on a working horse ranch.Due to our lifestyle and the choices we make, someone who is vegan will find our home to not be the right fit. We eat meat, and also enjoy hunting. While we apprecate the interest, hosting someone who has made these lifestyle/dietary choices won’t fit well. Thank you.
Organic methods: We don't use weed herbicides, chemicals, or fertilizers. Hay production is left natural.
We are currently in the process of becoming certified organic.
Certifications: working on becoming certified
Current projects: Hello,
On our family run ranch we have lots going on. We are looking for indaviduals that would love the opportunity to help us out with mare care, night checks durring foaling, foaling, breeding. As well as learning some natural horsemanship along the way and the techniques we apply to our horses.
You'll learn about - Mare care, foaling, foal care, breeding and breeding techniques, stallion care and handling, training and working with young horses... and so much more!

I really enjoyed my 4 weeks at Royce Ranch with Curt, Lisette (Curt's lovely new partner), Jennie and the very cute dog. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and your friendly company!
Curt's daughter, Jennie, lives 10 min. away, but she came to the farm every day. With her and Curt I worked a lot with the horses.
Curt is a very nice man with a good sense of humor. He is a real Cowboy with a big heart. We got on really well :-).
Jennie is very experienced with breeding and she like to share this knowledge.
With both easy going!
I had my own mobilehome, which was perfect. Each meal we had together in the beautiful wodden farmhouse. I even tasted moose meat and really liked it. I also enjoyed the picnics at the wonderful peace river. It's an amazing landscape down there, which is not far, but only accessable by car.
The first thing I learned was driving the Quad, which was lots of fun.
All works we did like feeding, breeding, careing of the foals, builting the new shed, clearing up the penns, everything was feasible, fun and really not to much.
There was enough time to relax and riding a horse.
The ranch is located in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by farmland and of course bears and moose.
Something that I expected but missed while I was there was the training/ horsemanship with the foals.
I got an impression into some medical things like ultrasounding mares and once a
chiropractor for horses.
I had a great time off my demanding job in Germany

I had really a nice time at the Royce Ranch. This family is so friendly and I felt very welcome on the ranch. Also, I had some lovely horse rides and cuddles with the dogs. Curt can tell really nice story's about all his adventures and I learned new things about horses.
So thanks for the nice stay.

I've spent 6 weeks on the Royce Ranch and had an exciting time! I've learned so many new things about the ranching life and living on the canadian country side. No matter what we did, it was so much fun! Even if there was a lot to do, it always was time for joking and I really appreciated this. Thank you Maggie, Jennie, Curt, Brad and the girls for treating me like a family member! I can say it was part of the best time of my life and I have to come back.

If you want to live a real ranchlife adventour, it's the place to be ! I was there during the foaling season (may), and I had a really good time. The whole family is kind and lovely. I've met wonderful people, and I never felt as a stranger. I've done and seen there a lot of things I never did before! (seeing new wild animals, fishing, eating new meats, drove trucks... the list is long)
I really loved seeing mares foaling, taking care of them and their babies, but also riding horses and doing groundwork with them. The landscape is beautiful. I really enjoyed my trip and I will come again!
I thank again Curt, Maggie, Jennie and Brad for treating me as a family member and took time to share their knowledges with me.

I've spent 6 weeks with the Royce Ranch family in march and april. It was the foaling season and really exciting. Curt, Maggie, Jenny and her family were really kind and I did not feel like a worker but just like a friend, came for a visit and giving a hand. I've learned a lot about breeding and their way of life in north of Alberta. It's definitely a really good place to be woofer. Thank you for everything !
