We are an older, well-travelled couple. Wwoofers stay in a fresh, spare room in our home with a separate bathroom. The property is tucked away in the Cowichan Valley, 20 minutes from Lake Cowichan and 10 minutes from Duncan. Many forest parks and trails surround us. A car is an advantage if you hope to explore the island farther out, but not essential. We are situated on 2.5 acres. We have a semi-mature permaculture food forest. I am a qualified permaculture designer. Work could be anything from mulching gardens, weeding, planting, harvesting and preparing fruit and vegetables or working in the house during poor weather. We have chickens, ducks and 3 geese. Our family includes a small, fluffy dog and a fluffy cat. Meals are vegetarian and shared with the family. I was a WWOOF host in Australia for many years before coming to Canada. Come prepared to split your time between farm work and relaxing in the beautiful Cowichan Valley. We work part-time, so we ask woofers to work 3.5 full days per week.  NOTE: Please read our complete profile before making contact. We want a personal experience with our wwoofers, and promise to read your profile when contacted. Please include the word "CHOOK" in your subject line so we can be assured you are contacting us because you like what you have read.  Organic methods: Permaculture Certifications: not certified. We are too small. Current projects: Currently: Keeping weeds down between trees and shrubs in the orchard. Planting summer vegetables. Fast WiFi internet is available.

My experience was very enjoyable throughout my stay; the various tasks were varied and interesting, and they were all related to the farm and the animals. The room and the house are spacious and comfortable. We immediately felt like part of the family; all the meals (which were delicious) were shared together, which made for a warm and welcoming experience and allowed me to immerse myself in the local culture. I highly recommend this place for a woofing experience!

Had a great time at Annie’s Cottage. The accommodation was great, clean and warm along side fresh and tasty home cooked meals. Everyone was very welcoming and helpful. The farm work was mainly digging, planting and renewing paths but they always made sure I had a break during the day. Overall had a great time and would definitely recommend Annie’s Cottage.

Hi Kaan Sorry, I didn't review your stay. I got sick not long after you left, and by the time I got to it, the window of opportunity had expired. I would be more than happy to leave you a glowing review. It was great having you here, and you contributed so much to the property, as well as being great company and the consummate guest. Hope this finds you well, and you are having more wonderful adventures. Cheers from Jonathan & I.

Our experience at Annie's Cottage was wonderful! Ann treated us as part of the family. Accommodation and meals were great, with fresh eggs everyday. We worked 4 hours every day but they were always wanted to be sure to make break. Our work in the cottage was pretty varied: as a hobby farm we helped mostly to remove weeds but also plant, to install irrigation systems, to renew the paths... always with the help and supervision of Ann. We absolutely recommend a wwoofing at Annie's Cottage!
