Hello! My name is Audrey, I own and operate Fir River Ranch. If you are country at heart, enjoy wildlife, love horses and dogs, and meeting good people then this is the place for you. We are an award winning bed and breakfast in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan. Organic methods: Composting, using no chemicals in our garden and fruit trees, wild berries, natural fertilizer and lawn cutting with our horses, recycling, building sustainable log furniture We have a gigantic garden and berry orchard that we preserve into hundreds of jar of salsa, pickles, carrots, beans and almost anything else you can think of. We make wine all our own berry syrup, and jams, pick many different kinds of wild berries. We also make most of our own bread all deserts butcher our own wild meat. There are 8 horses, 3 dogs, some are rescue. There is two cabin for volunteers. We offer wagon, sleigh, and trail rides. Regarding horse training we currently have a pair of four year old's and two five year old to work with that you could occasionally can get a chance to work along side a professional wranglers, and horse massager I am looking for help with a wide variety of chores. The Ranch is run like a family unit. Our main focus is on working with our animals and to care for our property. You would work in exchange for meals, housing and many other amenities. You would stay in a cabin with private rooms built for volunteers, and we try to have at least four helpers at all times. The chores include cleaning and computer work, fence fixing, cooking healthy meals together, care of huge property, gardening and maintenance of our tractors, quads, truck and cars. . There is also usually some kind of wood working going on at the ranch. A typical work day is meeting at 8AM for breakfast, going through our daily chore list, and tackling the day's work. We meet again at 12 for lunch, after which we clean up and break for afternoon. At 4 we prepare for dinner and finish any odd jobs eat dinner . The evenings are then free time again. There is a lake within 15 minutes for fishing and hiking, and the local area for hunting. You may horse back ride, play with our lovable dogs, enjoy the outdoor hot tub and indoor sauna, and also have a chance to see the northern lights. In the evenings we play plenty of cards and board games which always makes for a good laugh, with also plenty of free time to chill out for some quiet rest and relaxation. We recommend that you pack clothes that you don't mind getting dirty and feel comfortable working in. Bring plenty of layers, work boots, and gloves if you have them. Heavier coats and winter gear can be provided if they are needed. I will do my best for you to have fun here. It is a true country Canadian experience. You will see my spouse, Perrie, in the pictures, who passed away in 2017. Even though he isn't among us anymore he still inspires the life at Fir River Ranch. I am especially looking for a mechanically inclined person on a long term basis. Living here is a good way of life that has lots to offer. Please check out our website, Facebook and Instagram page, and helper reviews. Thank you for your time and consideration, I hope to hear from you. Audrey Stauber Internet access available

My time at Fir River Ranch was a really special experience. The ranch is in a beautiful, peaceful part of northern Saskatchewan, surrounded by forest and wildlife. It’s the kind of place where you can truly slow down and appreciate nature. Audrey is a very kind, generous, and welcoming host who genuinely cares about the people who come to volunteer. I felt included and appreciated during my stay. I also had the chance to meet wonderful people in the local community and other volunteers, which made the experience even more memorable. The work was varied and fair, and there was always time to enjoy the surroundings as well. I learned new things, had some great outdoor adventures, and made memories I’ll carry with me for a long time. I’m very grateful for my time at Fir River and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful, authentic volunteer experience in nature.

I spent a month at Fir River Ranch and had a great time overall. I especially loved the gardening and being outdoors—it gave me a real taste of country life in Canada. Free time with the other volunteers was a highlight too; we played cards, went to the lake with Audrey’s car, and even had some fun pub nights and wildlife drives with Audrey, which I really appreciated! Still there were a few things i expected to be different. There was more housework than I expected, and I would’ve liked to be more involved with the horses. At times, communication could feel a bit tense but I know running a place like this can be stressful. All in all, I’m really glad I went. It was a great experience, I met some awesome people, and I learned a lot. Thanks to Audrey and all the other Volunteers!

I only stayed a week, which is not really enough to see what the ranch has to offer in its entirety. We were 5-6 wwoofers so we shared the load and had a great time, going into the jacuzzi one evening or playing games at night ! A typical day starts at 8am to 12 then we have a break until 4pm and get back to work until 6. It was mostly housekeeping, cooking for the bnb and feeding the animals. Audrey was very nice to me, but there were another woofer who was criticized a lot and she was very strict with this person, so I have mixed feelings. It was a bit messy at times but I still managed to have a great week !

Fir River Ranch is an amazing stop in Canada!! I spent amazing 8 weeks with Audrey and the other volunteers and it was just great. Chores (in winter) mostly revolve around the B&B with cleaning, cooking and helping with the little things. During our breaks/ off days, we have looots of time to cuddle the big (but really cute dogs), occasionally go on horse rides or just chill. The “workload” is really manageable and shared with all volunteers. FRR is definitely a place of community and fun. You’ll meet people from all over the world and Audrey and her (sooo nice) friends/ neighbors will try to give you the real Canadian experience and take you on different activities!! It’s a perfect place to meet people, have fun and try out new things :)) (Just be aware of the sweet treat-platter…it’s dangerously addictive;))

I stayed at Audrey's for 1 month and it was a great stay. I really wish I could have stayed longer, i felt so happy at the ranch. It's a place where you meet extraordinary people and you're always in a good mood with the other volunteers. You quickly feel at home at Fir River Ranch. Audrey does her best to enable us to enjoy new experiences. The day-to-day work consists of cleaning the b&b cabins, cooking, feeding the horses and dogs and giving them the occasional grooming and brushing. And when the weather permits, we go horseback riding. Volunteers stay in a pretty and cosy little wooden cabin with separate bedrooms. In our free time, we take short walks and play board games. We can also watch films together in the evening. It's a warm and friendly place. The only danger at Fir river ranch is eating too many delicious homemade cakes. I'll never forget all the wonderful encounters I've had at the ranch, and I hope I'll have the chance to cross your path again soon. Thank you for everything.

I was supposed to spend a month in Fir River Ranch and I'm still here since Audrey is really welcoming and I feel so good here. The tasks are either taking care of horses, rooms of the bed & breakfast, cooking together or plenty of other various stuffs. It's great because we have always something interesting to do and so much new skills to learn. Most of all, team with other volunteers is incredible, you met amazing people from all around the world, and even in the hard work, there is always time to have fun all together. Humour and good mood is an important point of Fir River Ranch. But in fact, everything is really nice here : confortable house and sleeping cabin, really light work schedule, lovely animals, lot of good food (really a lot), and of course an incredible host. Even if she can be an impressive character sometimes, especially while you're working on something important for her, Audry will always make her best for you to enjoy as mush as possible your time here. And for this I will always be grateful to you Audrey. Thank you for everything. Thank you Glenn, Pat and Shane, Théo, Aby, Amy, Karin and Marion for your kindness and all these laughs.
