This farm is run by a momma and her kids, we grow all our own meat naturally with no hormones or medicated feed, we raise Pigs, Cows (milk and beef), Chickens (for meat and eggs), turkeys, and also we raise Horses. We also have lots of young horses that need riding and training.  We have a large garden to grow our own organic vegetables, we also store them for winter by freezing and canning them. There’s also a couple building projects on the go as well as some fencing projects, if you are handy building that would be great. There is always tons of work to do here, such as weeding the garden, feeding and caring for the animals, milking cows, moving cows, building and maintaining fences and farm buildings, and things around the house, also putting up the hay is always long days of being on a tractor, but we always find time to have fun and just visit too.  And there is also so much beauty that surrounds us, such as the forest, the fields, the rivers, creeks, lakes, and hills. We also have many baby animals to play with such as horses (foals), cows (calves), and chicks.  We also get time to do fun things occasionally such as visiting these natural beauties and swimming, walking and hiking in them, horseback riding, playing cards and games, playing music, and visiting around a campfire. We live just 10 minutes from the small town centre. Organic methods: We are all natural and organic, but not certified organic (honestly I have an issue with the label organic, lol, as it is very misrepresented in our culture).  We raise all our own meats on non medicated feeds, and without using hormones.  We practice sustainable ranching. Certifications: We have treated posts in the ground, and we will treat animals if they are sick. We believe a lot of the certified organic system is just a money grab. Current projects: We are busy adjusting things to run more smoothly, so projects like fencing, building, gardening. A house renovation has been started and I hope to continue with that building. Also we have calves and foals here to play with (they are being born from March 15-June 15, so a busy time then Taking care of them). We also have many horses that need riding and some need training. In May and June we will start preparing the garden and planting the vegetable garden, as well as the flower gardens and do some house renovations. Summer is full of haying and fencing and moving cows and horse work. Fall is preserving the harvest and getting ready for winter. And building and preparing new gardens with fruit trees and berries and herbs and flowers specifically grown for tea. Also this summer we would like to build a root cellar, and a turkey coop, and put in new water systems for the animals, and maybe repaint the barn too, lol. Also we did a little logging to add more land to our pastures, so there will be lots of pasture improvement too. We also move cows around to different pastures throughout the summer and fall, so lots of cattle drives to do. Internet access available

My stay at this ranch has been the most meaningful and unforgettable experience of my life. During my two and a half months here I learned so much about horses, cattle, plants, ranch work and life itself. Thank you, Cheryl, for welcoming me into your home and giving me the chance to become part of your life, your family and your animals. I am incredibly grateful for everything you taught me and for the trust you had in me. I also feel very lucky with all the other helpers who were here during my stay. We worked together, laughed together and supported each other every day — and I can honestly say that I found friends for life. 🤠 Working with the animals, riding out on the trails, helping with daily chores and experiencing real ranch life taught me more than I ever expected. If you are looking for a place where you can truly learn, grow, work hard, laugh a lot and feel at home, this ranch is the perfect place. Thank you for giving me a home on the other side of the world. I will carry these memories in my heart forever and hope to come back one day!! 🫶🏼

My time at the Colour V Ranch was absolutely amazing! During my stay, I learned how to milk cows, saddle a horse, and even try my hand at cowboy roping, along with many other parts of ranch life. We also went to a local rodeo, spent time at a nearby lake, and visited Barkerville — all unforgettable experiences. Those three weeks on the ranch gave me a real understanding of farm life and homesteading. I got to connect with the animals — from the horses and cattle to all the friendly pets — and found a kind of peace I hadn’t felt in a long time. The workload changed from day to day (as it usually does on a farm), but that’s part of the experience, and honestly, I loved it. If you’re curious about horses, cattle, and ranch life — and don’t mind getting your hands dirty — Cheryl’s ranch is the perfect place for you. Huge thanks to Cheryl and her family for the warm energy, fun memories, and amazing hospitality. Wishing you all the best! 🤠

Thanks Neal, it was great fun having you :). I know ranch work was a bit of a shock for you at first, but by the end you were catching on and really embracing the lifestyle. I loved sharing every aspect of the ranch life with you, and Oma misses you! She enjoyed the visits so much. I wish you all the best in your adventures and I hope you keep practicing your roping skills. :)

I had a great time at the ranch! As soon as I arrived I was integrated and treated as part of the family (even took me on some trips with them!). This included helping out every day with the chores (feeding the chickens, pig and sheep) / doing whatever was on the plan, fencing, loading cow in the trailer or weeding in the garden and around pastures. A highlight definitely was pulling a cow out of a pond :) All the animals were always ready to get some cuddles (exp. Hoss - one of the dogs) as well and I definitely never got bored. Thank you all for this experience!

It was my first experience with wwoof. I loved working with the animal. There is lot of life in this house. You're getting up early but its part of ranch life. I wish I could have learned more but I was only there for 2 weeks and Cheryl is in a complicated situation so she do the best she can. For me she's inspiring. I appreciate the time I pass there. Thanks to you and your surrounding.

Thanks Lyann, it was great to get to know you and your sister. It was only 2 weeks, but was a busy time of hay season and it flew by so fast, and your help was much appreciated. Enjoy your next travels. :)

I did not enjoy my stay at the Color V Ranch for several reasons. However, I do want to acknowledge a few positive aspects of my experience: 1. I was allowed to feed and groom the foals and calves, which I truly enjoyed. 2. I had the opportunity to observe bull semen testing, which was very exciting and funny. 3. I liked spending time with the children on the ranch and playing the piano. Unfortunately, there were also a number of issues that made my stay difficult: 1. The agreed-upon working hours (3 to 7 hours per day) were consistently and significantly exceeded. We had to work a minimum of 9–10 hours every day. 2. I did not feel personally welcomed or supported by Cheryl. She made no effort to get to know me, and it was left to the other WWOOFers to explain tasks and routines. I was essentially thrown into the work without guidance. 3. I had expressed that riding twice a week was important to me. While this was not guaranteed, Cheryl initially sounded very optimistic. In the end, it became a drawn-out negotiation just to ride once a week. 4. When I raised concerns about the unfair division of the workload, Cheryl became emotional and cried. Rather than addressing the issue constructively, she justified the situation by referencing her personal problems, which felt like emotional manipulation rather than leadership. Because of these experiences, I decided to leave the farm after just one week. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the Color V Ranch to future WWOOFers.

I’m sorry you did not enjoy your stay Ella. You arrived at a very busy time and even though I tried connecting with you and even stayed up late your first night to chat because I knew I’d be gone the next days. When you arrived I was helping put on a big women’s event, so for 4 days I was not home much at all. The other wwoofers knew this was coming and supported me going and helping, and they pitched in the extra time covering my work on the farm those days. Then I came home and had to spend days in the tractor discing fields to get them ready for planting, farm work is like that, some days are hard long days, and then when that work is over there’s more time to relax. It is still an adjustment period for me on the farm, as now I’m doing the jobs of my ex husband, as well as my own jobs, so it may take some time to get it running smooth. As for your concern of the workload, the only thing you expressed to me was one day my daughter didn’t unload the dishwasher, so you were angry. I did talk to her about it but I also know she is going through a difficult time as we navigate a divorce, so compassion is needed for her and sadly that didn’t seem something you were willing to have. And yes when I came back to talk to you about it I did cry, it is an emotional time in my life, but in no way were my tears a manipulation. I’d also like to note for 2 days you refused to help with anything, you were sick, yet you were fine suddenly when you heard we were going to a branding.

I had a great time at the ranch! As soon as I arrived I was integrated and treated as part of the family. This included helping out every day with whatever needed to be done, sometimes longer, sometimes shorter, but also getting a good insight look into ranch life, playing with the kids and taking part in nice family activities like tobogganing, bowling or horseback riding and fun movie and game nights. All the lovely animals were happy to get some cuddles as well and I definitely never got bored. Thank you all for this experience!
