Family farm on beautiful mid Vancouver Island
British Columbia
We have a small 5 acre farm on Vancouver Island, 20 minute drive north to Nanaimo and 10 minute drive south to Ladysmith. If you like to go for a nature walk, you will find many wonderful walking trails and river swimming holes close by. The farm consists of fruit trees, strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, herbs, garden patches as well as greenhouse grown cherry tomatoes & cucumbers. Work will depend a bit on the weather and the season, may include landscaping, building fences and raised beds, ptransplanting strawberries, training tomatoes, picking fruit and vegetables, weeding, help with building irrigation systems for watering plants, and any other jobs we might deem important along the way. We are seeking for motivated, positive volunteers between February - October to help with our farm. We have three day trial period while we get to know each other, and this ensures the volunteers and farm operators are able to work well together to achieve the farm goals. You will be working 6 hours a day and we provided all meals including none working days. We have private sleep area with twin/ full/ queen sized beds, wireless internet access available.
Organic methods: Yes, we use biological methods and do not use pesticides or chemicals in our farm.
Certifications: We are not certified organic, but we don't use any chemical or pesticides on any of our fruits and vegetables.
Projects vary based on the season, and can include seeding, transplanting, cultivating, harvesting, greenhouse growing, pruning, seedling, prepping beds, watering, mulching, weeding, farm maintenance etc.

Could not have asked for a better place to stay at. Most places were closed for the winter. But for some reason they gave me an opportunity. The work load was enjoyable. I was there to learn and absorb as much info about farming as possible. They were patience and answered all my questions. The food was delicious. The hosts were easy to talk to. Super greatful for them to have open their doors for me. Wish I could have stayed longer.

I had a very good stay at the Cassidy Farm. It was my first WWOOF-ing experience and I enjoyed it very much. The work was very varied and Grant and Melissa explained every task good and clearly. Grant showed me how to drive the tractor what was pretty fun. Melissas meals were delicious and you can have good conversations with them. I felt very welcommed and could even extend my stay. Im glad I chose this farm and would definitely come back.
Thank you very much for this great time!

This was my first WWOOF experience, and I stayed for one week. During my time on the farm, I helped plant seeds, trim branches, and even got to drive the tractor a little. I also enjoyed cooking meals together, and all the food was delicious!
One of the highlights was getting to hear stories about their family. Even though my English is not perfect, they were very kind and talked with me a lot, which made me really happy.
I would love to come back in the summer or fall when the crops are ready to harvest!

Casey Farm gave me good memories.
Every time, even if it was snowy, Melissa and her husband suggested good work, and
I got to do a farmer's winter work.(Especially, it was my first time driving tractor with a shovel.)
Their teaching was kind and clear, so I could understand easily.
It is possibly because I am also Asian , so every night the Asian style dinner Melissa cooked was so delicious. (And her cooking speed was so fast with high quality. )
I already miss her dinners and their family stories.
Thank you for the lovely hosting.
