Chinook Farm is a beautiful small farm in the scenic and peaceful North Thompson region of BC. Rob and I fulfilled our lifelong dream in 2007 and bought 25 acres. We wanted a farm in which we could live and produce naturally-raised, wholesome food for ourselves, family, friends and community members. Sadly, Rob passed away in 2020. I am still operating the farm with the help of WWOOFers. The farm is 25 acres of mostly wooded property that I am still developing. It is surrounded by wilderness, with frequent wildlife sightings. I enjoy meeting new people and learning about their culture. One of the favourite things at the end of the day (spring/summer/fall) is to sit around the outdoor fire and chat with WWOOFers or visitors. WWOOFers have been a part of Chinook Farm since 2013. Each and every WWOOFer has had a tremendous impact on the development of Chinook Farm. The help is greatly valued and appreciated. Farm work is important, but so is enjoying your visit. I aim to make your stay fun and a learning experience. So, bring your sense of adventure, and willingness to learn and you’ll have a great farming experience. Daily morning and evening farm chores consist of feeding and watering the animals, and gathering and preparing the eggs for customers. Between the morning and evening chores, there is a wide variety of jobs that need doing. Cleaning animal shelters; repairing or building fences; cutting, splitting and stacking firewood; and general maintenance of the farm are jobs that need doing in the spring and summer. Winter chores are mainly tending to the animals, clearing snow and sometimes inside tasks. There are a variety of jobs, so hopefully WWOOFers can try different things and not get bored. *WWOOFers should expect to do physical work such as lifting buckets of feed, forking or shoveling manure, straw or hay, etc. WWOOFers who have their own accommodation are welcome. I supply groceries and basic necessities. Meals are typically the responsibility of the WWOOFers, although some meals are shared. Generally, I work out those details with the WWOOFers on the first few days of arrival. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or for more information. Thank you for reading about, and considering, Chinook Farm as a place to WWOOF. Organic methods: composting manure and bedding; grass-fed beef and sheep; Certifications: Our farm is not certified organic, however, we do our best to live organically and raise our animals naturally. Current projects: The daily animal chores will be the main priority. Once chores are taken care of, there are a variety of other projects to complete, such as cutting, splitting and stacking firewood for winter heat. Other projects and tasks may include fencing, building or fixing outbuildings, weeding the garden, grass trimming and general clean-up and maintenance of the farm. Internet access available. Wifi and land line phone in the house and shop. Cell connection is spotty throughout the farm.

The farm is situated about 15 minutes north of the small town of Barriere, and about an hours drive north of Kamloops. Kamloops is a small city of 90,000 with all amenities including an airport. I regularly pick up or drop off WWOOFers in Kamloops.

If you're independent, creative, motivated, and looking to experience the life of a farmhand with the trust and confidence from your host; this is the place for you. It is a beautiful farm with a breathtaking view, Christine is a lovely and accommodating lady, the animals are all wonderful, and there are many projects to dive into aside from the daily chores of feeding, watering, egg collection/cleaning, and caring for the animals. The RV Trailer offers privacy and comfort. Groceries are supplied based on your desires/preferences/diet. Excellent Wifi. Outhouse for washroom. But as well as a washroom in the House. One of the Showers is at the workshop. (I was there during March so the trailer was still winterized.) It was my first time dealing with Cattle, so Christine was very informative, and I learned plenty about the operations during my short 4 weeks there. Silly Billie and Rascally Wrangler are two of the most wonderful dogs. All of the animals have their unique charm and character if you're willing to spend some time to get to know them. If my future travels ever bring me near again, I will, without a doubt, drop by.

Christine is very welcoming with WWoofers and sharing her home and farm with you. A lovely home and space to work at and call home for the 5 days I was there. Daily chores include chicken feeding and egg collecting, mowing the yard and checking in on the rest of the animals. Sharing a meal and a beer at the end of each day feels well earned and goes down a treat.

It was an absolute pleasure having you here Marie and Raphael!! Thank YOU for coming. You were such a great help. You arrived ready to work and it was not evident that this was your first WWOOFing experience. Not only did you catch on very quickly, you took on a leadership role, allowing me to leave the farm to visit my family for a few days. You ensured the other WWOOFer here was supported. I appreciated your consideration of my schedule and farm tasks before scheduling your days off. Your help with the new puppy was invaluable. Overall, You are dream WWOOFers: helpful, considerate, caring and respectful, and fun. I highly recommend you. You are welcome back here any time as WWOOFers or as guests. I wish you all the best in whatever future endeavours are in store for you. Sincerely, Christine

As a first time WWOOFER, I had an amazing experience at Chinook farm, a slice of paradise in the beautiful mountains. Christine is a wonderful host that made me feel welcome the moment I got here and always ensured we were comfortable and enjoying our stay. I also enjoyed doing the chores as spending time with the animals was entertaining and brought me happiness. I can honestly say that I have no complaints or disappointments and I’d love to come back here one day. I highly recommend Chinook Farm as a place to WWOOF. Thank you again Christine!

I planned to stay for two weeks, but ended up staying for five weeks, and I had a wonderful time! When my car had problems in Kamloops, Christine was there straight away and took me to her farm. I had a wonderful time with the other wwoofers and Christine. There's always work to do on the farm, so you never get bored. Apart from that, we went camping at Allan Lake, boating on Clearwater Lake, downhill biking in Sun Peaks, and went on a tour of a forest ranger's area. Every week at TGIF you also have the chance to meet locals and hear their stories. I would like to thank Christine from the bottom of my heart for the great time at Chinook Farm!

We had the best first WWOOF experience we could have imagined. We had planned to stay with Christine for a month. As we liked it so much, we ended up staying for three months! We really enjoyed the work as it was very varied. On the one hand, we were able to work with the cute animals and on the other hand, there were many other projects (repairing fences, preparing firewood, craft and creative projects). Also, we were able to learn how to use the tractor, excavator, and drive with the quads. It is always important to Christine that the WWOOFers have the best experience and a lot of fun (horse riding, quad tour, boat tour, campfire, hiking, game nights). She has given us so many unforgettable experiences and we are very grateful to her for that. The time with Christine felt like a vacation with a family member. She is such a welcoming and a kind-hearted person. We laughed so much together and felt very comfortable! We already miss Christine and her wonderful farm.
