We have a 30 acre Certified Organic vegetable, herb, and seed farm located in the Stewiacke Valley on the banks of the Stewiacke River. Health and happiness are crucial elements for us and most of what ends up on our table comes from our farm or other local farmers/producers.  We enjoy cooking and baking and are varied in meals. We are looking for people who are interested in learning, taking part in our routines from seeding, transplanting, harvesting, repair and maintenance, saving seeds, drying herbs, and much more. It is important that if you come here that you be open to learning and working with us in our daily activities. We also do winter gardening and harvest year-round from our 4 large greenhouses so that is another whole aspect for wwoofers coming here to take part in and learn. Mutual respect is essential, and we hope to have Wwoofers who are outgoing. We have a busy, fun, and diverse experience here for anyone interested in trying it out.  You will have fun, you will learn lots, and we do have something unique here that keeps most wwoofers interested in staying longer. If you have no interest in farming, or working with the earth, interacting with our family, or learning then please do not waste our time by asking to come here. Likewise if you are active protester or supporter of terrorist ideologies this is not the farm for you. This is a working farm and not a couch-surfing opportunity. Within 1/2km of us there is a post office, small diner, and a community store. As well as hiking trails, and some great scenery. To see more pictures of our farm you can find us on Facebook at Cochrane Family Farm or our website www.cochranefamilyfarm.com. We hope to hear from you. Sincerely, Frank & Lisa Cochrane Organic methods: Permaculture, hugelkultur, raised beds, regenerative Certifications: Eco-cert Current projects: Planting, maintaining gardens, repairing greenhouses, riverbank protection, agri-tour trail around property, building repairs, raised bed construction, seed harvesting, seed cleaning, potting up trees and shrubs and much more. I had the opportunity to be at the Cochrane Farm this February, and it was truly a wonderful experience. From the very beginning, we had great communication through the WWOOF platform, and everything worked out spontaneously for me to come. Even though it was winter, I was given the chance to experience life on a farm, which was absolutely amazing. Before traveling to Canada, it had always been my dream to live on a farm and spend time with a typical Canadian family. Lisa and Frank are incredibly warm and welcoming hosts. They are also very interesting people, and there was always a fascinating story to hear and meaningful conversations to share. I especially loved that we could enjoy the teas produced on the farm anytime, and Frank baked fresh bread and sweet treats every few days — they were delicious! There was another WWOOFer staying on the farm with me, a truly wonderful, attentive, and kind person. I really appreciated her company. Lisa and Frank’s son, Brian, is also very kind and friendly. Lisa and Frank always had an open ear whenever I needed to talk or asked for advice, and they truly listened. The work was varied and engaging. We often helped Lisa with packaging seeds — that was always my highlight. We also worked in the greenhouse, helped with the chickens, cleaned eggs, and shoveled snow... Another highlight was that we were able to participate in two workshops. They were incredibly interesting. I wish Lisa, Frank, and Brian all the very best. Danke fuer Alles

I’m so glad I chose Cochrane Family Farm for my first WWOOF experience in Canada. From day one until my last day, Frank and Lisa were incredibly kind and welcoming. They communicated clearly about everything and always made sure I had what I needed for the work. I have to mention that I loved Frank’s baking! Even when he was tired, he still baked enough for everyone every couple of days, which was so thoughtful. Lisa is just as lovely, we went for a walk in the park in Dartmouth on my first day, and even though it was our first time meeting, her warm smile made me feel completely comfortable. They are both hardworking, and I learned so much from them. I also had the opportunity to participate in their Sunday workshops twice, and I enjoyed them very much. I truly enjoyed talking with them and listening to their conversations as they are both very knowledgeable and fun to be around. Also, it was such a pleasure listening to Frank, Lisa, and Brian talk, their conversations were humorous yet full of warmth and love. Thank you all for a fun, meaningful, and educational two weeks. I’m truly grateful for this experience! I wish you and your farm the best!

The five weeks I spent at this farm were amazing. Here, I was able to have a variety of experiences that were closely connected to the local community. My favorite memory was the big annual event, the Christmas market. I was able to be involved from the preparations to the day itself, and it was a wonderful memory. The meal and room were comfortable. Thank you for the wonderful experience. I would love to come back again!

Our family had a wonderful time being a part of Frank & Lisa's home and farm for a week. It was our first time engaging with farm work, so we had a lot to learn. And learn a lot we did! Frank and Lisa were kind, easygoing, humorous, and generous in sharing their knowledge, stories, and food. We found ourselves getting into harvesting (flowers and vegetables), seed saving, planting, soil turning, and even weeding! We gained new appreciation for the source of our food, new insights into agriculture and Canada, and new friends. Thank you, Frank and Lisa! May our paths cross again!

This was my 1st woofing experience, Franck and Lisa are really lovely people, they welcome you as if you were one of their family. You can do a variety of jobs on the farm and you can learn a lot from them. Franck always has a joke and makes the best pancakes, Lisa cooks wonderfully. I had a memorable month thanks to them. Your only risk is to become attached to this adorable family.

We had a very special time at Frank and Lisa's farm. Both of them are open-minded and very warm-hearted people, with whom we felt very comfortable from the very beginning. They made it possible for us to feel at home with them. We were allowed to immerse ourselves in family and farm life, and they were very interested in us. The work on the farm was interesting and not without its challenges. The food was fabulous. Frank and Lisa can cook wonderfully and had no problem "feeding five more mouths". We learned a lot here and will very happily remember our stay at Cochrane Farm. Thank you very much for everything, stay healthy, and keep it up. Best regards from Anne and Timm with Moritz, Pauline, and Mathilda.
