My home is on a small ranch between Merritt and Logan Lake about 20 minutes(30km) from Merritt. I have beef cattle grazing on nearby hills in the summer then fed and calved at home in winter/spring. I am also is a veterinarian with a clinic at home some days and a main hospital in Merritt. One of my daughters lives in Merritt with her family. Another daughter is a veterinarian in Kamloops. They and my grandchildren and my sons are regular visitors at the ranch. I also have former woofers / friends who visit regularly. On the ranch there is also a second home which is rented by people who should help with ranch at work at times too. I need help with gardening, fencing, animal care including cattle moving, feeding and calving chores at some times of the year. The horses also need feeding and work so there is opportunity to ride. INDEED, RIDING ABILITY IS A REQUIREMENT. For the interested and appropriate person there would be opportunity to see and help with some veterinary work. I would expect 5-6 hours work/ day on average .  The horse riding is usually not considered work!!I have hosted people from around the world through Rotary, veterinary schools and WWOOFing. The latter has been delightful for the variety yet consistently great people who I have gotten to know. There is not  enough work in the winter to keep a wwoofer occupied so I will be looking for help in the spring from mid march until the fall gathering in october. The physical nature of the work and the need to sometimes work alone means that this position is best suited to someone able to work independently at times.Thank you for considering my farm! Organic methods: home butchering of beef/ chicken and pigs Certifications: not certified organic but still grown organically without pesticides or fungicides Current projects: replacement of old fence rails, other fence maintenance , computer record keeping, garden planning , solar installation , horse shelter construction Internet access available

I really loved my stay at Pauls ranch! I had the best weather with warm autumn sun, first frost and some mist coming through the valley. We were out for riding and hiked with the horses from time to time through difficult forest-cow-trails. For me it was always an adventure to go for a ride with Paul. The horses are wonderful, really nice and save to go out alone with them. I really miss my time with the cats and dogs they also made me feel like family. I was never really alone, because paul has the kindest family and neighbors coming around looking after me, came for a ride and a little talk. Paul showed me a lot of ranchwork and invite me to join his veterinary appointments. I hope I was a good help for him! My last days at the ranch I met the next wwoofer Astrid and it was nice to work together and spend some time with another "horse-girl". Thank you for this opportunity, Paul! It would be nice to come back and see everyone again.

Paul is a kind-hearted, patient and wonderful person who made me feel welcome from day one. His ranch is beautiful and a special place. Tasks included: tending to the animals such as feeding chickens, dogs, cats, grooming and riding/training horses, setting up a water trough for the cows, fixing fence, giving the dinner table a new varnish, delivering some things or picking up things in town, picking up rocks and assemble them around a new well, some housework. Special to late autumn is the cow work, so rounding up cows, sorting them and helping with the pregnancy check or loading them to be be sold at the stock yard. I also had the opportunity to take part and help at vet appointments, which was very interesting, I had lots of fun and enjoyed work and free time at the ranch. Paul also introduced me to his lovely neighbours and his big family who occasionally help or stay at the ranch. The ranch house is beautiful, The wwoofer room in the basement provides lots of comfort and privacy and a direct view onto the cow field. Meals are prepared together usually. I definitely recommend staying at Paul's!

Paul is one of the nicest people I have ever met. Thanks to him, I fulfilled my cowboy dream. Thanks to him, I learned a lot of new things, both in terms of working on a ranch and at a veterinary clinic. From the moment I arrived, he treated me like family. Not for a single minute did I feel unwanted or unnecessary on the ranch. Thanks to Paul, I also met a lot of amazing people. I would definitely like to visit the ranch and Paul in Canada again someday.

(bring me back!).

I stayed with Paul for six weeks and right from the start I was made to feel at home. It was a completely lovely experience from his friends and family that I met to the "work" I helped with, all of which was enjoyable and educational. I was lucky enough to be there during calving season which was truly wonderful and sorting the cows on horseback was so much fun - one of my best memories in addition to rides up into the hills above Burnt Ridge Ranch. I am so very thankful for this experience and absolutely can recommend Paul as a host!

My partner and I stayed with Paul for about a month while we were on a break from medical school. We had such a great time!! Paul treated us like family from the start, was incredibly kind and generous, and trusted us to care for his many animals (an eclectic mix of cute/spicy/hilarious personalities). He was also very reasonable about the amount of work expected each day, and I found the work (fences, animal care, setting up drinking water) to be satisfying and educational. Outside of this, we made so many fond memories riding horses, swimming in pristine lakes, running trails up a mountain, and cooking delicious meals. I was very sad to leave, but will forever be thankful for this experience. Paul is a very kind person with many unique stories and interests, and we hope he will be a friend for life!
