Mixed Farm and Honey Bees
Saskatchewan
HI, we are looking for a easy going, responsible, independent person or couple to help on our farm. Volunteer should be able to work independently and do basic chores, check animals, help outside and inside. We have a few cows calving at the start of February and approximately 70 sheep lambing in March.
Keith and I run a small mixed farming operation in northeast Saskatchewan close to the Porcupine Forest. We both grew up on farms and can't imagine any other life.
During February through April most of our work centers around daily chores to take care of the sheep, cattle, goats, and birds. Once May comes, Keith is busy checking and uncovering his honey bees. He also makes his splits and puts new queens into the hives. During the summer months, honey bees occupy most of our time.
We also have cows, sheep, goats, horses, chickens, turkeys, and working dogs on our farm. We plant a large garden and have a variety of fruit trees. If you are interested in preserving fruit and vegetables I also like to do that in late summer and fall.
Although May-October is our key time, we always seem to keep busy. March through May we are busy with lambing and calving. We are close to a lake so we often canoe, kayak, or fish in our spare time during the summer. We enjoy fishing and being out on the lake.
In the winter months there is also a lot to do outside. Keith and I welcome anyone interested in learning and becoming part of our family while you are here. There is always something new to learn or experience.
Keith has completed his second square timber cabin on our other quarter. It is set up with solar power, an outdoor shower with a water tank and a wood burning stove. Keith has a sawmill, so he cuts the trees off our land, saws them, and then uses them to build.
Winters are not as busy as the rest of the year. We take time to relax, watch a few movies and read some books
Organic methods: We do not use sprays or insecticides on our property. We also raise our own meat and grow a garden and have fruit trees.
Certifications: Not certified.
Current projects: Some current projects that are going on around our farm are
there are fences to be fixed and Keith is working on building an outdoor shower on our volunteer cabin. He is also converting an enclosed trailer into a camper/toy hauler. There will always be honey boxes and frames to be built in the winter, wood to be cut, and sometimes trees to be cut down and pulled out and sawed into lumber.

Our farm is actually 42 km northwest of Preeceville. You go north of Preeceville to Endeavour. Drive through Endeavour. Follow two curves: first right, then left. Drive straight west for approximately 10km. There is a train station in Endeavour.

Staying at Sandra's and Keith's farm for one month was a great experience. I had a wonderful time with great conversations, delicious food and interesting tasks I had never done before.
Everyday we would start the day with a tasty breakfast and then go on to the daily task of taking care of the animals. Afterwards there was a tea/coffee break with yummy cookies. Then some different tasks would follow up. In the evening we had delicious meals together and later on watched tv (my favourite canadian show now is Reba). In our free time we would go to several events together which I really enjoyed. I had so much fun and met many new interesting and friendly people. In this short time I learned numerous of new things from both of them. How to take care of farm animals, especially the little lambs, snowmobiling, shooting a gun, driving the bobcat and the list goes on.
I'm very glad I had the opportunity to stay on your farm. Thank you very much for being patient with me and taking such good care of me.
I would love to come back in the summer and see how things are looking then.
Cuddle all the cute dogs from me.

My first Woofing Experience was super. Both Sandra and Keith are a very pleasant couple who welcomed me with lots of delicious food and a good sense of humor. Catching sheep's, butcher chicken and working for the first time with bees was a great time for me. And my first Canadian Thanksgiving. Thank you and hope to stay in touch.

I stayed over for around 3 weeks ans I really enjoyed my time! I laughed and (I think) improved my English a lot with them. I learned a lot, saw a lot, shared my admiration of the Northern lights with Sandra and my pleasure to joke while working with Keith. I'll definitely come back a day and, as one might say there, Endeavour Foreavour :)

Keith and Sandra were the best hosts. I felt comfortable and welcomed from the moment I got to Wildside. We had an amazing summer tending to the bees, extracting honey, caring for the animals, and so much more. Both hosts are wonderful teachers and are a lot of fun. Amazing meals, adventures, and learning.
