Urban lot and community garden
Alberta
Urban gardens. House site has greenhouse, gardens and no lawns. Large garden site at shared community garden is just a short bike ride away. Close to river park system and city wide bike paths. Can take one or two at a time. Can feed anyone what ever they want. Sleep in your car, in a tent, your own room or hanging upside down in a closet. Home is a 5 person shared home with me, and currently my son, my brother and two other adults. Work depends on the season and person; from digging to building maintenance. Good place to start a western canadian tour.

We spent two great weeks with Gerald at his summer place in beautiful Winlaw, BC. Gerald has the best dry humor and, together with his amazing neighbors Doug and Di, formed the perfect trio—funny, kind, and super chill.
The setup is simple but lovely: a cozy room with a comfy mattress, a second room just for us, and nearby outbuildings with a flushing toilet and a warm river-water shower. It felt like the ideal off-grid setup.
We mostly ate fresh garden meals, and Gerald was incredibly generous—especially letting us use his car regularly. Wi-Fi was available at Doug and Di’s place, where we often had dinner too.
The work was varied and always interesting—sometimes at Gerald’s, sometimes helping Doug, Di, or other neighbors. We worked about 5 hours a day, 7 days a week, but everything felt relaxed and fair.
We really miss the fun evenings with the trio. If you’re looking for a unique mix of nature, laughter, and kind-hearted people—this place is a gem.

Gerald was an amazing host!
He is so generous, respectful, considering and kind. Every single day is an adventure.
The work is not too hard but there's always what to do, and it is a complete delight working with Gerald.
I would definitely recommend everyone to get by him. 😁

During our stay, we were able to help out in several gardens.
We were very free at work and were able to organize our time ourselves within the working hours.
Due to some very good tips, we saw a few things in the area in our free time.
We had a great time there!
