Cattle Ranch
Alberta
Welcome!
Thank you to all the woofers that stayed and helped out at our farm.
COVID - Wwoofers are most welcome. We take male or female, or couples. We the hosts, are from european descent but born in Canada, we only speak English, so you should know at least basic English so communication is easier.
We are an organic cow/calf ranch plus farming where you get to drive John Deere tractors plus organic vegetable gardens. WE ARE SEEKING WWOOFERS OF ALL SKILL LEVELS but would be most interested at this time in anybody that has ELECTRICAL or CARPENTRY backgrounds.
We use up-to-date new machinery for ranch and farming operations.
On our farm, there are; dog, cats, horses, 20 chickens, a herd of beef cows. a organic garden that we only use for our own home cooked meals.
The natural beef that we eat is only home raised and is very tasty. The jobs, on our farm vary and change with the seasons of the year.
In the winter and spring, jobs are cattle related, such as feeding and caring for the livestock.
Summer, jobs change daily or weekly they range from planting crops, fencing, haying, gardening and many out door yard type jobs.
The fall; gathering of the bales, working with the cattle, and harvesting some grain and bailing straw.
Some days work is longer, other days it is less, and WWOOFers do not have to work in bad weather. We have had a lot of very good woofers in the past few years and they were interested in helping and seeing how CANADIAN RANCHING and FARMING is done on the prairies in Canada.
Their experience will leave them with fond memories of Canadian living, for life!
Accommodation is in our new modern family home, and/or private 5th-wheel holiday trailer.
We have high speed internet.
Our farm is only a 5 minute drive to our local town of Castor.
Certifications: My garden is organic and our beef are organic organic but not certified

October 2023
Dear everyone,
I worked for four weeks on the farm from September to October. In this time I got the oportunity to see how Canadian farming works and I did lots of different jobs. In the first two weeks I did a lot of machine operating like baling and swathing. Afterwards the work was cattle related like chasing cows Preg-checking them and other things around the farm like harvesting potatos or setting up pens for the cattle. The food was lots and really good as they used a lot of fresh vegetables from their own garden. I also watched a Hockey Game in town with Gerald and Kelton and we even celebrated Thanksgiving together. It truely felt like I was a part of the Family. I really enjoyed my time at the farm and have lots of respect for all of their work. Thank you Gerald, Susan, Spencer, Kelton, Paul and Matthew for the amazing time. I hope we meet again some day.
Best regards, Sebastian :)

It was an amazing experience. The atmosphere was really warm and welcome, it felt like you was a part of the family. The food and the living spaces were really good to. I had two warm meals a day and always food when I was hungry.
Work: I think I worked up to 8 hours a day but that was completely fine for me beacause I gained a lot of experience on the farm. I did so many different jobs and had always a proper instruction. I had some jobs that I did by myself other jobs that I did together with others. (job examples: feeding calfs tagging calfs cleaning working on the field....)
Free time : We were free to do stuff on the weekend and if I planed something I was always provided with everything I needed.
It was an amazing experience met some awesome people and enjoyed working there 15|10.
Greetings and a big recommendation
Lenny

Dear all, I stayed four weeks at the cattle ranch in fall (end of october until mid september). It was my first WWOOfing experience in Canada and I enjoyed it very much! I was mainly helping Gerald with harvesting (e.g. bailing straw and hay, driving the trucks) and cattle related work (e.g. chasing cattle by quad and vaccinating them). Also I helped Susan with getting the garden ready for winter (e.g. pruning berry bushes, harvesting vegetables ) and with household duties (e.g. cleaning after dinner/filling dish washer and vaccuuming the floor). Working hours varied from 3h/day to 8h/day or unexpected days off because of bad weather. The food was great and lots! Susan cooked supper freshly every day and I would prepare my own breakfest and lunch. In terms of accomodation, I was having my own room in the family house, which I appreciated very much. During my free time, I was mostly playing with the kittens, taking the dog for a walk or playing games with Kelton. I especially enjoyed watching TV with the whole family in the evenings and the dinner on thanksgiving. They even took me out to watch Cassie‘s volleyball and Spencer’s hockey tournament and I was invited to Kelton’s awards night at school! To sum it up, the family is very warm and welcoming. I felt always well integrated and I learned a lot about canadian farming. I can defenetly recommand this place! Cheers, Martina
