1. Describe your project, your place, and its inhabitants (including animals):
The Dharma Centre of Canada is one of North America’s oldest meditation centres. As a non-sectarian charitable organization, we are dedicated to the study, practice, and contemplation of Dharma—the universal truth of liberation. Our 400-acre forested property offers a peaceful environment for retreatants and volunteers alike. Through meditation and mindful living, our community cultivates awareness, compassion, and wisdom, fostering personal transformation that extends to the well-being of all. Our property is home to gardens, greenhouses, and a variety of wildlife, creating a serene space for connection with nature.
2. List the activities that WWOOFers will participate in and what you want to teach them:
WWOOFers at the Dharma Centre will engage in gardening, greenhouse work, and trail maintenance, helping us care for our vegetables, herbs, and flowers. We emphasize harmonious living in a mindful community, and we can share practices for integrating mindfulness into daily life. Volunteers are also welcome to share their own skills and passions with our community.
3. How will you feed and house WWOOFers? Please describe your accommodations and plan for meals:
WWOOFers receive three nutritious meals per day. Accommodation is in a single bedroom with access to a shared bathroom and Wi-Fi, providing a comfortable and restful environment during their stay.
4. What could a WWOOFer's day look like at your site (time slot for participation in activities, expectations...)?
Morning: Garden and/or trail work (2–3 hours)
Afternoon: Garden and/or trail work (2–3 hours)
Evening: Optional meditation/Free time
This schedule allows for hands-on contribution while also leaving time for personal reflection, relaxation, and enjoying our natural surroundings.
5. Play the guide! Talk about your own hobbies (music, cooking, etc.) and those possible around (hiking, swimming, etc.):
Volunteers can enjoy a variety of activities during their stay. Hobbies and experiences include hiking on our forest trails, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, cooking and baking, meditation, and Dharma studies. The surrounding nature offers a peaceful setting to explore, relax, and connect with the community.
