We are a couple in our early 70’s, armchair travellers actually, living on a 38 acre hobby farm that has been in George's family since 1918. We have a small market garden with mixed greens, the usual summer vegetables and lots of pumpkins in the fall (autumn).   George and Anna used to work side by side in the gardens, and tending animals and fences. Anna has had to take a less physical role in the business due to injury and arthritis. George needs help to continue to do what he loves.. Our daughter (Heather) also lives on the property in a separate building and helps George when she isn't working at her job as a veterinarian assistant. We are looking for individuals who want to experience the joys and rigors of farm life in rural Atlantic Canada.  Growing vegetables can involved a great deal of physical work. We like to think of the work out as fitness training with a reward of healthy delicious food. In exchange for your help you will be provided with a comfortable and private place to sleep and lots of tasty and healthy meals and snacks. During the spring-summer-fall season we can offer hands on experience planting, weeding and harvesting.   In October, we will be harvesting and selling pumpkins along with our produce, herbs and root crops..  Our projects for the fall are planting garlic, preparing an acre of land for next spring’s asparagus crowns. Other perennials include fruit trees, blueberry bushes, native trees varieties. We want to make your stay in Nova Scotia one which will give you fond memories for a long time forward. We will show you hiking trails and interesting places to visit during your time off. We may even be able to take time off ourselves to show you other parts of the province. We have bikes for for your use to explore the immediate area..  If you're into hiking there are some scenic and challenging and scenic walking/hiking trails nearby. Give us a try. We have one dog (Buddy 13) who is very friendly and also two cats (indoor/outdoor) Panther (black 13 yrs old) and Dessie (black and white, 12 yrs old). If you don't mind animal loving this is a place for you. 🙂 We also have three kune kune pigs that are pets, live outdoors and enjoy all the vegetables they want. Organic methods: Hand picking pests. Use of chalk and sulphur, etc. Certifications: We are not certified organic mainly due to the cost and record keeping. We sell our products locally and our customers know and trust us.. Current projects: Building a starter greenhouse for next year Planting a few fruit trees Building a pole fence Planting trees and perennials Internet access available

I had a wonderful time at the farm, and George and Anna are delightful to converse with. I plan to go back for another visit when I next get back to Nova Scotia. The sleeping arrangements were very comfortable and the food was excellent.

George, Anna, and Heather were wonderful hosts. From the moment I shared a little time with each three, I knew I made the right decision to give some time and effort to help a wonderful family continue on their craft of producing wonderful crops and providing them to the surrounding community. I was very fortunate to try my hand at a plethora of tasks including seeding, transplanting and helping George prepare for the Saturday Market. I was also grateful to enjoy the mornings listening to wonderful stories from Anna and sometimes have her share time during our delicious homemade meals where at least a couple elements came right out of their garden. The week was filled with nothing but amazing stories, wonderful food and an awakening to the passionate farmer that resides in me. Infinite Blessings and Abundance George, Anna, and Heather - You Are Appreciated.

I spent six weeks with George and his family and, honestly, never a dull moment. He has a brilliant mind and is truly passionate about what he does. He never stops, which is remarkable considering his age. His wife Anna can’t physically help anymore because of her condition and his daughter Heather is limited by her working schedule so any help is always welcomed but there is no real pressure in everyday activities. Everyone is friendly and respectful and all of the four-legged creatures (Lilla you will be missed 😔) take part in creating a cozy household. George and Anna have a great life experience to share and stories about the old days and the province which is a pleasure to listen to. And last but not least Nova Scotia is one of those places. The weather in the fall was amazing (despite the drought) and the landscape of Gran-Pré is peaceful and heart warming (has to be a reason if is listed as a World Heritage Site). My commitment was real and I was treated like a son. I do believe no further words are needed.

George is a real hard worker, but he never forces you to do anything you don't want to or can't do. Don't feel bad if you need to take a break or if you're unsure about your tasks. If English is not your first language and you want to practice, this is the place for you. George and Anna LOVE to share their interesting stories, and they're always open to chatting with anyone. You might sometimes feel confused or tired because of the language, but they absolutely respect your needs and challenges. I was so glad I could help you with your hard work — THANK YOU I really felt safe and comfortable!

I spent two weeks on the little farm on the hill with George and Anna. I really enjoyed the time with them — they are so warm and kind. Working with George is very varied and at times physically demanding, but you can always ask for a break and take one. I’m very grateful for the time I spent there; during the two weeks, I even got a few days off to go on a short trip. That was great. Thank you so much for the wonderful time.
